Totem station signs were brought in by the newly nationalized British railways in 1948. The plan was to use the totem as the BR logo on all equipment and to give each station signs in a regional colour.

On this site we have compiled a rarity guide. Every station known to have carried a totem has been given a grade based on how easy they are to obtain:

A*:

Not yet appeared in auction - may not have survived.

A  :

Extremely rare totem, very hard to obtain.

B  :

Totems known to exist, although they could prove
 quite elusive.

C  :

You should be able to acquire these totems fairly
readily, either through auction or private sale.
