401.   B.T.C. Report on Standardisation of Travelling Post Office Vehicles, November 1954. Very useful and interesting report.  Gives the numbers and dates of construction of all T.P.O. coaches, their journey diagrams and whether they were fitted with apparatus.  8 large fold-out diagrams in the back showing proposed arrangements of P.O. carriages, mailbag apparatus, etc.  Interesting.

427.  Plan: L.M.S.R. Kimbolton.  Fully coloured track plan on thin paper showing station buildings, signal box, posts, with proposed sidings for I.C.I.  Folded (somewhat creased) with one or two tears but not easy to find plans off     this ex M.R. Co. branch for Kettering to Huntingdon which shut in 1959.       70” x 24”

430.  B.R. (E) Cambridge Area Breakdown Train Arrangements Diagram.

Lines are colour coded for particular steam cranes 110 at Peterboro, 133 at Cambridge, 134 March and tool vans at South Lynn.  17” x 13”

 

431.  G.W.R. (Worcester Div.):  Supplementary Notice in connection with the  Royal Train with the King and Queen of Spain from Paddington to Evesham, November 15th 1907. 4 pp., (marked Adlestop Box in pencil on cover)

 

432.  Cast-iron Notice: “Midland and Gt. Northern Joint Railway, Trespassers will be prosecuted. By Order.”  This is the Midland Ry. version, mainly placed on the Saxby Junc.- South Lynn Section. Repainted a long time ago.

 

433.  Plan: City of Bradford – Birksland Works.  Plan of Important Business    Premises to be offered by auction by E. Dobson & Son on 1st July 1909.      The premises were surrounded by G.N.R. running lines, property and sidings.  Coloured in. Ornate corners; interesting; folds out to 31” x 22”.  Generally  good for its age.

436.  B.R. (S) Totem: Kenley. Fully flanged, black edge, in good condition with      no face chips.  Kenley was the location of famous W.W.2 fighter station

 

437.  G.W.R. Invoice to Midland Railway for wages and expenses of Inspector     and men transhipping Ambulance Train 34 from 13/8 to 7/9/1917, including   hire of lifting appliance and use of shelter per Mr D. Bain’s letter signed in ink by G. J. Churchward, together with a similar invoice signed by Churchward to    the Lancashire and Yorkshire.  (2 items)

438   G.W.R. bound public timetables for 1933-35.  They comprise (i) September 11th 1933 – July 15th 1934.  (ii) July 9th – September 30th 1934. (iii) October 1st 1934 to July 1935.  Good condition, all with card covers and complete with maps, etc.  Bound in cloth backed boards.  G.W.R.in gilt tooling. G.W.R Office copy.

441.  Carriage Print:  Fen Drayton, Cambridgeshire by Kenneth Steel.  Timeless view of the Three Tuns Inn, village stream and church steeple in background.  In original type glazed frame. Excellent condition.

442.  Carriage Print:  Durham by Sidney Causer, Looking down the Wear to Elvet Bridge with castle and cathedral on the hill.  A fine print. LNER series.  In original type glazed frame. Excellent condition.

443.  Carriage Print:  Ben Loyal, Sutherland by Douglas Macleod.  Fine view of the granite mountain reflected in the loch below.  From the Scottish Series. Unframed.  Excellent condition, L.N.E.R. size.

444.   Carriage Print:  Staithes, Yorkshire by Gyrth Russell.  Typical seaside view by the Canadian artist with fisherman talking among themselves under the pantiled cottages – not a tourist in sight. In original type glazed frame.  Excellent.

450.  N.B.R. Brass Tablet: Reedsmouth Junction to Woodburn. A picturesque section of the Wansbeck Railway from the Junction with the Border Counties and finally closed to freight from Bellingham in 1963.  Fine original condition.

451   Tour Itineries: Fascinating selection of various societies’ tours, total of 36 from dates which range between 6th September 1953 and 10th April 1965.  Mainly S.L.S. and R.C.T.S. so much detail.  Included are such delights as the Plant Centenarian.  Last  train Honeybourne – Cheltenham .  The Waverley Route, The Dukeries, Derbyshire Branches.

452   Annesley Loco. Self-Help and Retirement Fund Club Card as issued to member, G. Cave, together with small pocket-sized booklet of some 17 pages with the rules of the Annesley and District British Railway Employees Social and District British Railways Employees Social and Retirement Fund dated January 12th 1960.

453   G.W.R. oval silverplated dish by Walker and Hall. GWR roundel 9” x 6”. In good used condition.

454.  Publicity Brochures British Railways North Eastern Region depicting stylised d.m.u. on covers, folding out to describe “Go As You Please” day line diesel tickets.  The two brochures mention over 380 diesel coaches as being in service in the North Eastern Region and sub-divided into Northern and Southern sections.  Red and blue lettering throughout with system maps, fold-out to 19½” x 8”.  Dated from 12th May 1958 and 9th June 1958 respectively.

455.  Handbills – headed in totem, British Railways, Western Region, Half Day Excursion Bookings, Thursday August 22nd to Moretonhampstead (for the Carnival) and from Newton Abbot, Teigngrace Halt, Heathfield, Brimley Halt, Bovey, Pullabrook Halt, Lustleigh. Blue lettering dated Paddington, July 1957.

456.  W.G. Bagnall Ltd.  Board covered ring binder 6¾” x 5½” with gold block lettering. W.G. Bagnall on spine with Stafford, London and Calcutta addresses on the front with subject title “Locomotives, Wagons, Timetables, Light Railway material.”  Contains 4 pages of particulars required when ordering locomotives, plus 31 postcards depicting locomotives of varying gauges with a further 10 of narrow gauge wagons.

463.  L.N.E.R. S & T Diagram: “King’s Cross Proposed Indicators for Banking Engine Working; 50 ft to one inch.  Shows Platforms 5 to 10 and signal-box and just into Gas Works Tunnel.   On blue paper. L.N.E.R. – S & T office stamp Kings Cross dated 7.1.43. On blue paper.  A few areas of not too serious old worm holes. 34½” x 11½”. Folded.

464.  B.R. (W) Gradient Profile.  One large sheet which shows the Witham, Wells and Yatton branch, together with Bridgwater Dock Branch, Clevedon Branch and Wrington Vale Branch. Mid 1950’s. 29 ½ x 9” Good condition.

465.  Bakelite cased Banner Repeater. Brass arm with red/white banner and on/wrong/off.  Good condition, together with Bakelite cased Semaphore signal repeater with brass arm and distant signal with on/wrong/off. Good condition. (2)

466.  Folding Handbill.  Eagle Steamers m.v.’s Services from London Tower Pier to Southend, Margate, Clacton.  Photo on cover of vessel going under Tower Bridge.  1954.  Spike hole; otherwise good.

467.  Seal: “Glazebrook Steel and Company Limited” with intertwined initials in centre.  Copper, mounted on brass “eye-shaped” backplate.  Seal measures 2” dia.  Good.

468.  B.R. (W) Gradient Profiles. One large sheet which shows Ashburton, Moretonhampstead and Totnes Quay branches together with Teign Valley and Exeter Railway via Christow.  29” x 9½”. Good condition.

469.  The Great Northern & Eastern Joint Committee. Engine Shunting Voucher book (for time shunting over 15 minutes by goods train engine).  Each page contains two vouchers.  62 pp. left unused.  Code at top 50 bks, 100 lvs, 11-10.

597.  Beer bottle stopper label “Chivers Bros., The Brewery, Cwmtylery Abertillery Mon.” in centre roundel. “Replace the stopper when empty” on both sides. Bow-tie shaped, 4½” across. Maroon with yellow/cream lettering. An interesting survivor as the brewery lasted from 1910-1914.

 

598.  Tickets:  50 whole Edmondson tickets (all issued) from and to Leamington Spa, Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon area. Early 1960’s, of which 10 are G.W.R. prints.  Good condition .Interesting mixture.

 

599.  Signalbox Diagram: “Faygate” on the line between Three Bridges and Horsham. An office copy with the S & T stamp dated 13th October 1941,
