Enlargements of Macclesfield, Sandbach, Knutton Forge, Market Drayton. Note against the Leek and Manifold – closed entirely 12.3.1934 and Waterhouses – Leek closed for passengers 28.9.35.

637.        Programme of visit of the Queen to the Eastern Region. 15th February, 1962. 19 pp. Finely produced on quality paper by Baynard Press. Visit to Stratford m.p.d. Temple Mills, Barking Reconstruction Scheme, and Barking signalbox. Detailed timed programme, with the names of all the people to be presented to the Queen. Lion and wheel on cover. Blue tassels on the spine. Interesting.

638.        Signalbox diagram. Knebworth. A fine L.N.E.R. diagram on thick paper. Fully coloured. Holes for T.C. Typical LNER border and corner decoration. 73 levers. V.G. ex box condition. A well known E.C.M.L. box – 21½” x 53”

639.        Southern Railway Marine, silverplated one pint teapot by Elkington. Marked on side with S.R. Marine flag above “Southern Railway” in scroll. Good used condition.

640.        L.M.S. Signal box board. Holywood. An ex G. & S.W.R. section box on the Gretna Jcn. – Kilmarnock line. Original 52” long.

641.        L.M.S. (Midland Div.) Tender for cleaning and Painting, Station buildings, Goods Sheds, Engine Shed, Wagon Shops at Kettering, Burton Latimer and Finedon. 1924.  27 pp. Very detailed. Fascinating details and Contractor will be allowed 1st class pass, his Foreman a 3rd class. Contract was prepared before the corporate crimson became universal as it was specified and later crossed out that “the blue enamel for station nameboards, indicators, etc. - to be at the approved shade and manufacture.

642.        2 x ornate cast-iron luggage rack brackets. Floral design. Either L.B.S.C.R. or Pullman.

643.        L.N.E.R. – E Great Eastern Pattern. Sliding brass knob handlamp. Original unrestored condition. Crack in blue glass. LNE-E vessel.

644.        Plan. Thames Wharf. Showing M.R. Co.’s sidings leading up to Thames – stamped “Midland Railway Estate Agent’s Office 11th May 1917.” Paper. Folds out to 14½” x 33”. Red lettered label attached “From Estate Office M.R.Derby.”

(M) “The Eastgate, Chester.” A re-issue of the c. 1950 by Charles Buckle, but without his signature.  A very attractive and colourful street scene with many people browsing in shop windows.  In the smaller “See Britain by Train” format of 30” x 20”. B.R. “totem” at bottom. Printed by Baynard Press. Rolled and in good condition.

674.        Cambrian Railways cast-iron notice. Motor Car Acts 1896 and 1903.       9 lines of text. Secretary’s name S. Williamson, Oswestry 23½” x 30”. Repaired a long time ago. Back unrestored.

675.        (L.N.W.R.) home signal arm. Blade is corrugated and original paint; complete with cast-iron spectacle attachment and glasses.

677.        B.R. (E) L.T.S. line Signalling Notice. Installation of New Signalling at Southend Central and Southend East. October 1960. With pull-out diagram.

678.        Tyers Brass Tablet. Tillynaught – Tochieneal. From the ex G.N.S.R. line from Cairnie Jct. to Elgin, which closed late 1960’s. The section names have been scored through by the S & T Dept., though they are still readable.

679.        Carriage Print “Much Hadham” by Horace Wright. Not a car in sight, just a horse and cart, children playing with hoops, etc., in front of the half timbered buildings. Original type frame and glazed from L.N.E.R. series.

680.        Carriage Print “Aberfeldy” by Jack Merriott.  A fisherman casts his line on the far bank of the river and beyond, Merriott shows the rich tints of early autumn in the trees and hillsides. Unframed and in mint condition.

691.        10 x good quality colour slides of steam locomotives taken 1963-64 mainly between St. Rollox, Balornock and Robroyston. Including 45724 at St. Rollox – several A.4’s, A.2’s on Aberdeen expresses.

692.        10 x good quality Glasgow colour slides. Early 1960’s, including Black 5’s, Standards on freight trains, 72006 at Polmadie, Glasgow. Blue electric in original livery.

693.        10 good quality Glasgow slides, including 80023 on local passenger, preserved H.R.103, CR 123 ad GNSR Gordon Highlander on rail tours.

697.        Signalbox Diagram. Stevenage South. An L.N.E.R. diagram with intricate design to the border corners.  Dated 13.7.45. A fine E.C.M.L. diagram in good ex box condition. Rolled. 19” x 66”.        

698.        Signalbox Diagram Stevenage South dated 1.3.63. Later diagram this time with cut-outs for T.C. indicators. Still a fine array of semaphores. A bit of staining along the edges from the frame (but not within the border). Otherwise good ex box condition. Rolled 19½” x 71”

699.        G.W.R. Aldermaston Second World War Rescue Training Sheets. “Lifting Tackle” 10 pp. of typescript notes, followed by one large page of printed diagrams of “Lifting Tackle” (27” x 19”) followed by smaller diagrams of Slings, Reeving Block Tackle, and Timber Bridge. Each has “GWR Rescue Training Sheet” printed at bottom.

Aldermaston Second World War Rescue Training Sheets. “Lashings, Derrick, Shears and Gyn” 8 pp of notes – followed by 4 large fold-out printed pages full of diagrams, including picture of bombed out house with rescue workers in metal helmets with Ladder Bridge. A rare notice from the small Company built to tap into the Flintshire coalfield.  It was subsequently taken over by G.C.R. which replaced many of its signs. 27½” x 35¾. Repainted a long time ago.

Southampton Docks Visitor’s Permit stamped 15th August 1962 to go on Southampton Dock Premises and also enter Sightseers’ Balcony of Ocean Terminal. States that the permit must be handed to police on leaving the docks. Pamphlet and permit have been folded at some time, but generally good

761.        2 x early L.N.E.R. diagrams of proposed illuminated direction sign.    “L. & N.E.R.” Coborn Road Station with a hand pointing to the left. The first diagram dated January 19th 1923 shows the proposed sign with an existing Tramway sign attached to an ornate lamp standard. Also shows the exact placing of proposed sign at the junction of Coborn Road and Mile End Road. The second diagram (14” x 12½”) shows the sign in greater detail with dimensions, etc. Station closed 8th December 1946.

777.        Carriage Print “The Falls, Invermoriston, Inverness-shire” by Kenneth Steel. A fine view of the waterfalls with two bridges in the background.  This is the larger B.R. (M) size.  Unframed and in mint condition.

792.        L.N.E.R. 9x5 Works Numberplate. “London and North Eastern Railway 69107 Darlington Works 1903.” Oval cast-iron Ex. N10 0-6-2 tank engine. A Hull engine for many years it was finally withdrawn from Dairycoates in June 1961 and scrapped at Darlington Works the following month. Ex loco condition.
