2.              Great Eastern Railway. Lowestoft Graving Dock and Slipway. Regulations and Charges booklet. Card covers 10 pp. Printed at Stratford 1912.  Good condition. 6¾” x 4¼”

3.              G.W.R. Enamel poster board numberplate. “G.W.R. 2233” Brown lettering on cream.  3” x 6” with 4 fixing holes.  Substantial chipping around top two holes but only the top right part of the “R” has been affected.  Uncommon.

4.              Southern Railway (South Eastern and Chatham Section) Notice to Fruit Growers and Salesmen. Conveyance of Fruit and other Market Traffic from the Kentish Districts to London and Midland, Northern, Western South Wales and Irish towns.  1923 Season. 12 pp. Rusty staple marks, pin holes.

5.              Shedplate 55B Stourton 2/57 – 8/1967, York 12/1967-5/1973. Totally unrestored.

6.              Small Poster. City of Cork Steam Packet Co. Ltd. Sailings Bill 1927. Details of Freight and Passenger Services Cork to Fishguard, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, London, etc. Red and black writing.  Photo of one of the six steamers. 18” x 11½”.  Note on side: “Intending passengers will note that our Cork and Fishguard Express is the most comfortable and direct route between Cork and London, Wales and South of England”.  Has been folded. One or two (rusty) pin holes but reasonable condition.

7.              (G.W.R.) brass signalbox shelfplate. “From Solihull”. Hand engraved. Good original condition. 1½” x 4¾”

10.           B.R. (S) steel key token. “Stoke Junction – Allhallows.” An ex Southern branch in North Kent closed in 1960’s.

11.           L.N.E.R. (GN Section) Booklet No. 3559.  Through Carriage Working and Marshalling Arrangements.  Main Line (including Cambridge branch)       4th July – 25th September 1938. 145 pp. Gives all times.

12.           Cast-iron Bridgeplate “L. & N.W.R. Co. 70”, oval. 11⅓” x 17⅔”. Repainted.

13.           L.M.S. (Western Div.) Crewe & South.  Hours of Duty at Signal Boxes.

September 12th u.f.n., 21 pp.  Covers Abergavenny, Merthyr, Swansea areas. Good condition.

14.           Shedplate 56A Wakefield 9/1956 - 6/1967. Face restored, back unrestored.

15.           Lancashire and Yorkshire Rly. Block Telegraph & Electric Train Tablet Regulations.  Instructions to Signalmen and arrangements for signalling and circuiting of trains, November 1st 1919, u.f.n. 210 pp. Blue board covers, gilt tooling. Some light staining on covers. Contents good. A lot of information on the signalling of various lines.

16.           Cast-iron “D” wagonplate. “S.R. Standard 13 tons 6196”. Unrestored.

17.           Plans.  “G.N.R. Lincoln”. A detailed plan showing 8 platforms, all track level crossings, G.N.R. hotel, stables, etc.  Scale 50 feet to an inch.  Plan has stamp of G.N.R. Surveyors Dept. No. 1064/(19)19. 25” x 38”

18.           G.N.R. cast-iron Gate Notice. “Any Person who omits to shut and fasten this gate is liable to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings.”  “G.N.R.” incised in back.  Face restored, white on dark blue. Back unrestored.       3½” x 40”. Good condition.

19.           L.N.W.R. Certificate. “I am desired by the Directors to express to you, as one of the Staff who so fully recognised their duty to the public, as well as to the Company, during the recent labour troubles ….” etc. Frank Ree, General Manager, Euston Station, August 1911.  Very colourful edging, floral in gold, red, blue.  Britannia in circle at top. Awarded to Mr. O. Owen. Good condition for age. 7” x 10¾”

20.           Builders Plate “B.R. Derby L.L. Lot No. 30960 1982”. Oval cast-iron. Ex sleeping coach.  Built Litchurch Lane.  4¾” x 7”

21.           Envelopes. (i) G.W.R. (in full) Registration Office (with C.o.A) embossed on rear flap (unused) (ii) “Great Northern Railway Surveyor” in garter on back flap (used). (2)

22.           Royal Train Notice. King’s Cross to Wolferton Saturday 21st December 1957.  Gives passing times and light engine arrangements between Cambridge and Hitchin and King’s Lynn to South Lynn.  4 pp. Good cond..

23.           B.R. (E) Original Mahogany Carriage Print Frame. Glazed. Good condition. Ready for one of your LNER/BR (E) series prints.

24.           L.M.S. (Western Div.) Additional Appendix Instructions for Western Div. Servants when working over the Midland Division, also Supplementary Instructions to those contained in Appendices “G” and “I” and the Appendix for the Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Line dated April 1916 for Servants when working over the Midland, North Staffordshire and Ashby & Nuneaton Sections. July 13th 1925 u.f.n.  70 pp.  A lot of useful information.  Generally very good condition for its age.

25.           Burton on Trent Track plan showing Wellington Street Level Crossing and Road Traffic signals.  Shows location of locked cupboard containing plunger and white light and the notice board reading “Press plunger to stop road traffic over railway.  Trains to proceed only when white light illuminated.” Undated, probably 1960’s. Paper 9” x 12½”

26.           Builders Plate “B.R.  St. Rollox Lot No. 30402 1958” ex General Utility Van built jointly by York and St. Rollox to diag. No. 811, No.’s 86521-86654. Attractively face painted white on blue.

27.           G.E.R. Station Plan. Southminster Station; paper, folded, 16” x 48”. Shows signal posts, engine shed, turntable, etc. GER Land Agents Office stamp.

28.           B.R. (S) enamel notice. “British Transport Commission. The conditions upon which tickets, including season tickets, are issued and the conditions applicable to passengers’ luggage, etc., can be obtained free of charge on application to the Booking Clerk.  British Railways General Bye-laws are available for inspection at this Ticket Office.” Dark green. Generally very good condition. A very small chip under the “r” of British (not affecting letter).  4” x 6”.

29.           L. & Y.R. Drawing of New Offices, Savile and New Streets, Hull.  Shows the outside fascia of both buildings which were ornate with stone finials, columns, etc.  Some original sepia colouring.  Stamped “L&Y (in full) Architects’ Dept. 11th March 1905”. On paper. Folded.

30.           Cast-iron notice. “Great Western Railway. Warning is Given Against the Dangerous Practice of Propping up the Doors of Merchandise Tracks for the Support of Coal Weighing Machines …. James C. Inglis, General Manager.  Attractively face repainted; cream on brown.  Back original 12½” x 14”

31.           Plan. “North Eastern Railway. Holbeck Joint Station. Encroachment by Midland Railway Company.  Shows position of N.E.R. bracket signal post. 8” x 18”.  Ink on grey “vellum” “NER Estate Office 14th November 1908” stamp.

32.           Wright’s Bus Service (Louth) Summer Timetable with list and description of places of interest in Lincolnshire. 48 pp. 1920’s, judging by picture of their char a banc. Interesting local adverts. Generally good apart from rusting staples.

33.           Brass Paycheck. “L.M. & S.R. C&W Dept. (embossed) “Perth General 145” stamped.  Good condition. Not common.

34.           Brass Paycheck “L.M.S. T.F.C. Rugby (embossed) and stamped “155” Circular (with hole), 1¼” dia.

35.           G.W.R. Folding Pamphlet. “G.W.R. (in full) Day and Half-Day Trips from Aberystwyth July 8th – September 21st 1929. Including to Tallyllyn Lake by G.W.R. Road Motor. Also to Dinas Mawddwy (change at Cemmes Road). Folds out to 6 sides.  Red print.

36.           B.R. (M) Folding Timetable card.  Leicester (London Road and Central) and London (St. Pancras and Marylebone) 10th September 1962 to 16th June 1963. 8 sides. Very good condition. 

37.           Southern Railway brass cased signal repeater. Marked on face “S.Rly” with red swinging needle pointing to “On/Wrong/Off” Good condition.

38.           Book.  The Law of Railways applicable to Scotland by Francis Deas. Revised by James Ferguson, Edinburgh. William Green & Sons 1897.   1002 pp.  Inscribed in ink inside front cover.  The Highland Railway Inverness, Engineers Office – and signed Wm. Roberts, Feb. 1898.

39.           Shedplate 84J. Croes Newydd 1948 – Jan 1961. Face repainted only.

40.           L.N.E.R. (NER pattern) Handlamp. Oval brass plate on side embossed “LNER”. Slight crack to one of the coloured glasses.

41.           North British Railway. Timetable of Trains between Perth, Dundee, Arbroath, Montrose and Aberdeen.  July – September 1899. 16 pp. Paper covers. Generally good for age.

42.           B.R. (NE) Instructions relating to the working of 56 ton wagons between Tyne Dock and Consett. Gives the numbers of 01 and 07 locos specially adapted to working these trains.  Presumably mid 1950’s before 9F’s started to work the trains.  Totem on cover. 8pp.

44.           L.N.E.R. (G.N. Section). Circular No. 1677. Working of Passenger and Goods Train Fruit Traffic from the Wisbech District, Season 1932. 13 pp.  Gives times, etc.

45.           Cast-iron Notice. “Cambrian Railways. Notice. Any Person found trespassing on this Railway will be prosecuted. By Order.” Face repainted. Back ex. lineside. 18” x 27½”

46.           Carriage Print. “Beccles, Suffolk” by F.W. Baldwin.  An attractive view with many rowing boats on the River Waveney and the large medieval Parish Church dominating the market town in the background.  Mint condition. Original type frame and glazed. LNER Series.

47.           Carriage Print. “Loch Lomond” by Frank Mason. Looking northwards across the Loch to Ben Lomond in the background, with wisps of low cloud around the summit.  Mint condition. Original type frame and glazed.

48.           Carriage Print. High Wycombe by W. Fairclough.  A street market is in full swing in the town centre but very little traffic in evidence – a different world.  Mint condition. Original type frame and glazed. LNER Series.

49.           L.N.E.R. S&T Diagram of Signals.  “Retford South” dated 17th April 1941. Shows all track signals.  Also shows Retford North box. Folds out to 13½” x 60”. Good.

50.           Silverplated sugar tongs marked “L.M.S. Steamers” by Elkington. Fine original condition.

54.           B.R. (W) Gradient Profile. Bristol (Temple Meads) to Avonmouth Dock via Henbury dated May 1955.  9” x 29”. Good condition.

55.           Brass Paycheck. “Motive Power Camden” embossed in serif lettering and stamped “522”. 1¼” dia.

56.           Plan. (GNR)  “King’s Cross Station Dining Car Dept.” 8 feet to 1inch.    19” x 36”.  Shows all the separate rooms, china store, pastry kitchen, etc.

57.           Great Central Railway. Circular 5368. Opening of New Junction and Sidings at Ashton Moss.  10 pp. 14th December 1911. Provision of new junction and sidings for exchange of traffic with L & Y R. Good condition.

58.           B.R. (W) Gradient Profile. Edington & Bratton to Witham. September 1955. 9” x 29” Good condition.

59.           L.N.E.R. silverplated tea spoon marked with the full Company title in block capitals along the top side of the handle.  Fine original condition.

60.           L.N.E.R. (Eastern Sec.) Operating Circular.  Reconstruction of Bridge between Black Bank and Manea 22nd – 23rd February 1930. Gives altered passenger and freight train arrangements. 4 pp. Good.

61.           Track/Station Plan “M & GN North Walsham”. Includes signalbox, signal posts and new military huts and gas pipe to serve them.  Stamped “Engineers’ Dept. M & GN Rys Melton Constable 18.1.1916”. Ink on grey vellum 11¾” x 28”.

62.           S.R. brass cased repeater marked on face “Signal” and “on, wrong, off”; with swinging needle. Good.

63.           L.N.E.R. Scottish area Spring Time Tables 1st – 31st May 1939. 90 pp with map of Scotland in back.  Orange covers with LNER in Winking Eye.

64.           Menu/Tariff /card/and Wine List. Pullman Car Company/L.N.E.R. (in full) Pullman C.o.A in green. September 1924. One crease and rusty pinhole. Otherwise good.

65.           Great Central Railway cast-iron boundary post marked “G.C.Ry.” 30” tall.

66.           B.R. (W) quad-royal poster. “Western Region Modernisation, Newport (Mon).” Photos of new signalling and the new flyover at Bishton, together with a description of signalling attentions and a basic track diagram.         40” x 50”. Good condition.

67.           “D” Wagonplate. “B” 601387, 51 ton Ashford 1968 Lot No. 3654 Ex Freight liner.

68.           Card Carriage Panel Map. “Metropolitan Railway and Connections.” Black and red writing. From about 1925 because it still refers to the pre-grouping sections of the Big Four Companies.  8¼” x 24”.  Some staining at the bottom but generally good.

69.           L.T. enamel double sided destination panel. Edgware/Kennington. White lettering on black background.

70.           Signalling Brochure. “Electro-pneumatic point operation and colour light signalling at Leeds New Station L & N.E. Rly, Westinghouse Signal Co., June 1937. Handsome blue and silver covers with photo of station and many photos inside of signalboxes, track, etc. 20 pp with pull-out track diagrams.

71.           Southern Railway Marine Silverplated ice cream/sundae dish by Walker & Hall, with S.R. Marine Flag on the side with “S.R” in full underneath the flag.  Good original condition.

72.           Southern Railway Naming Ceremony Booklet for Merchant Navy loco. Aberdeen Commonwealth Line at Victoria Station 30th July 1942 by Lord Essendon, Chairman of the Company.  Picture of the engine on the covers; history of the shipping line on the back and description and specifications of the loco by Bulleid in the centre spread. Very good condition.

84.           L.M.S. (Midland Div.) Fruit, Vegetable and Fish Train Notice. Season 1923.  24pp Includes vegetable and blackberry train from Berkeley Road to Ashchurch. Rusty staples and a number of pin prick marks at the top. Derby, June 1923.

85.           B.R. Badge “The Flying Scotsman”. Enamelled with white background, mauve and green thistle and golden wing. Rect. 1½” x 1¾”, 1970’s. Good.

86.           S.R. (London Central Div.) Working Timetable Book of Freight Trains. July 4th, 1938 u.f.n.   Includes Brighton, Portsmouth, etc. 94 pp. Brown covers.

87.           Plans N & S Joint Line. Gorleston North station. Proposed alterations to down side buildings, following damage by enemy action 16th February 1941. LNER(S) District Engineers Office, Norwich stamp.

88.           B.R. Badge. “Leeds Executive”. Black/white/silver with three owls.  Worn by staff on the train. Good condition.

89.           G.N.R. Bradford area. Detailed map showing commencement of Bradford, Thornton and Keighley Ry. Shows St. Dunstan’s East, Mill Lane Junc., West Junction signal boxes. GNR Co.’s land/track coloured in. Stamped “G.N.R. Surveyors Department (19)08” 14” x 10¾”

90.           L.N.E.R. waiter’s tray; silverplated, circular.  By Walker & Hall; in good original condition. 12” dia.

91.           B.R. (W) Pamphlet. “West is Best. Some helpful hints for Holidaymakers to the Cornish Riviera.” Cover shows green drawing of D.600 loco crossing Royal Albert Bridge. 4 pp. 19th December 1959.

92.           North British Railway Cashbag. Waxed leather bag with oval brass plate engraved “N.B.R. Bervie”. Excellent condition. Bervie, a fishing village, was a terminus of a branch from Montrose and opened 1st November 1865.  Renamed Inverbervie 5th July 1926, it closed to passengers 1st October 1951.

93.           G.W.R. Christmas 1932. Alteration and Suspension of Passenger Trains and additional train arrangements. 63 pp., purple print. Very good condition.

94.           Midland Railway circular medal. 1” dia., silver, worded on front “Midland Railway Ambulance” with Wyvern above badge of St. John. Inscribed on reverse “Awarded to W. M. Knott for First Aid Rendered at Redditch October 6th 1920.” In original red box with “Midland Railway Ambulance” in gold block lettering. A fine item.

95.           Midland & South Western Junction Rly. Handbill concerning Cheap Excursions to Marlborough for Savernake Forest from Ludgershall (by kind permission of Lord Ailesbury). August 2nd – 11th 1906. One or two small edge tears but good for its age.

96.           Horse Rosette, heavy brass, slightly domed, engraved G.E.R., 2¾” dia. One fixing bar at back broken off, otherwise very good condition.

97.           G.W.R. Great War Invoice. “To cost of 6” H.E. Steel Billets broken into shell lengths, supplied and consigned to National Projectile Co., Dudley, November 1917.”  Signed in ink by G. J. Churchward.

98.           Wagonplate. “Lincoln Wagon & Engine Co. Ld., Owners 56207”. Oval cast-iron, 6” x 10¾”. Face restored, back ex wagon condition.

99.           G.W.R. Bookmarks: (i) St. Michael’s Mount (ii) Vale of Llangollen.

100.        L.N.E.R. small silverplated sugar tongs. By Hutton. LNER script initials, 3½” long. Very good original condition.

102.        S & D. Jt. “Agreement between the Somerset Joint Committee and the Moorewood Colliery Co. for the Construction of Sidings near Chilcompton. 1913”. Together with plans on vellum marked L.S.W.R. Engineers Office. 18.9.13. Track coloured in.

103.        Acme Thunderer Whistle marked L & NER on the lip.

104.        Ian Allan 1948 A.B.C. of London’s Transport. Nice cover. Some light markings against the numbers.

105.        B.R. (NE) Totem cap badge. “British Railways”

106.        Ian Allan booklet. Pullman & Perfection 1948, 40 pp. History of 70 years of Pullmans with appendix of cars in service. Good condition.

107.        L.M.S. oval cap badge embossed with Company initials in centre.

108.        L.N.E.R. Promotional Brochure of 4-6-2 Pacific 4472 Flying Scotsman constructed at Doncaster 1922. Exhibited at British Empire Exhibition, Wembley 1924.  A full description with specifications with 24 detailed diagrams of the loco (mostly pull-out). Front cover detached and some foxing and slight tears but still a very interesting item.

111.        Pre-Grouping nickel cap badge. “Station Master”. Block serif lettering. “Station” in straight line, “Master” beneath in semi-circle. Good original condition.

112.        G.N.R. Map of Cottages and Gatehouses bordered by Peterborough, Newark, Aslockton and Swineshead. Including the Wansford and Stamford branch, High Dyke, etc. 28” x 23”, folded, n.d.

114.        B.R. (E) L.T.S. line Signalling Notice.  New signalling between Dagenham Dock and Purfleet Rifle Range, July 1961. With pull-out diagram.

115.        2 x L.M.S. nickel teaspoons, one embossed “L.M.S. R.R.”, the other “L.M.S.” on handles (2)

117.        Brass Paycheck stamped “C.P.” (intertwined) (Carter Patterson). Round with flat base.

118.        G.W.R. Cardiff Division notice (No. 386) showing the arrangements for Diversion of Trains to Alternative Routes in Case of Emergency.  14pp.  Covers many of the lines around Cardiff – mentions that if any obstruction between Rhymney and Bargoed, G.W.R. 0-6-2 tank engines stationed at Rhymney may run over L.M.S. via Nantybwch, Argoed and Sirhowy Jct. November 1938.

120.        G.W.R. Publications. (i) “Look Out! Permanent Way Men.” July 1936. Green cover with G.W.R. “Roundel”. Very nice photos inside. 20 pp. Rusty staples, otherwise very good. (ii) G.W.R. General Appendix to Rule Book October 4th 1920, 335 pp. Cover somewhat grubby (stained) but contents excellent.  Interesting photos of wagons, tablet instruments, etc.  (2)

122.        Scottish Midland Junction Railway. Breviate of Act of Parliament 1847-8

123.        Polished Brass Description Label engraved on three lines “London & North Eastern Railway Southern Scottish Area, Stores Department, Cowlairs; and then 4317 in larger characters. Slightly curved – probably from can, etc.  3” x 1¾”.

124.        B.R. (E) Booklet (No. 312500). Instructions for Operating “In Section” Ground Frames on the L. T. & S. line. May 1962. 19 pp. Red card covers. Good.

125.        G.E.R. Station/Track/Land Diagram “Beccles”. Shows turntable etc., GER stamp 19.1.1920. 15” x 19”. On thin paper.

Donald Blake.  Probably the only carriage print to feature a signal box and semaphore signals.  The picture looks across to the sunlit mountain with the Mallaig line in the foreground.  In original type frame, glazed and in mint condition.

177.        2 x Ornate headed letters. The Midland Railway Carriage & Wagon Company, Midland Works, Birmingham, June 1907, concerning sites for wagon repairing huts.  The second letter has pictures of wagons, and a tramcar down the left side of the paper. Very interesting.
