  3. L.M.S. Vertical Track plans. Windermere – Oxenholme No. 3. Low Gill – Ingleton, Bare Lane –Hest Bank, Glasson Dock – Lancaster No. 4, Knott End – Garstang and Catteral. With enlargements of Kendal, Windermere, Bare Lane – Morecambe. Revised Aug. 1932.

Face repainted, back unrestored. Much rarer and more attractive than the large, heavy trespass.

  17. G.W.R. Loco Dept. Invoice signed by G. J. Churchward. To transfer value of following machines sold to S.E & C.R. for repair shops (France), together with an invoice for the cost of supplying tools to the Stratton Ammonium Nitrate Factory (Swindon). Dec. 1917.
  18. Printed Notice. “Newcastle and Carlisle Railroad.” Tenders are wanted for the supply of 1,500 cubic yards of Walling Stones … to be laid down … at, or near where Brampton & Penrith Roads cross, or at the Rail Road side near Milton Beck … etc. July 3rd 1833. Printed by Henry Lancaster, Brampton. An original item from the dawn of railways. Minor creasing but very good for its age. 7½” x 9”.
  19. S.R. brass Signalbox plunger with white enamel ring with “Platform bell” in black lettering. Good condition.
  20. Card Notice. “County Donegal Railways. You will feel First Class if you travel First Class. We provide First Class for you (with a hand pointing on either side at the word “you”. First Class Only a Trifle over Third. Book First.” Lettering in blue. Probably 1920’s. Quite good condition. 8” x 11½”.
  21. Builder’s Plate. “B.R. Derby L.L. (Litchurch Lane) Lot No. 30953/1979” oval cast-iron 4½” x 6⅞” Repainted.
  22. B.R. (W) Signalling Notice. m.a.s. Old Oak Common (Paddington Suburban/Paddington, Subway Junc. and Portobello. Sun. 12th Nov., 1967, with pull-out diagram.
  23. G.W.R. Cast-iron cabside 3694 ex Collett pannier tank, built Swindon March 1941. A Banbury engine up to 1953. Other sheds included Barry, Swansea Victoria, Tyseley. Withdrawn from Newport Ebbw Jct. 12/63. Scrapped Hayes, Bridgend 1/64. Face repainted. Back ex loco.
  24. G.W.R. Great War Swindon invoice signed in ink by G. J. Churchward. Manufacture of 9.2” Base Adaptor Forgings from crop ends of 6” shell Billets consigned to National Shell Factory, Washwood Heath, Birmingham and to the Projectile Co., Staines, Middlesex, Nov. 1917.

Stephens’ lines which are all listed in top left hand corner (unused), together with a gummed paper t/t for Festiniog and connections with G.W. & L.M.S. April 2nd 1923 u.f.n.

  2. G.W.R. Order of Service Card for Armistice Day. Fri., 11th Nov., 1932 (Fourteenth Anniversary); purple on thin, cream card. Very clean, small spike hole in l.h. corner; otherwise V.G.C.
  3. L.N.E.R One pint beer glass. Full Company title in capitals etched around the top part of glass. A couple of base chips don’t really detract.
  4. B.R. (S) Hours of Opening of Signal boxes London (Central) Dist. 12th Sept. 1960 u.f.n. 26 pp. G.
  5. L.N.E.R. (embossed) Welch patent signal lamp plated “Retford” in superb order throughout. All copper polished, etc.
  6. Carriage Print. “Southwold, Suffolk” by F. W. Baldwin. Looking south along the busy beach and the lighthouse in the background. Original type frame. Excellent condition. L.N.E.R. Series.
  7. Carriage Print. “Thaxted, near Elsenham, Essex.” by F. W. Baldwin. Looking up the hill towards the church with its tall spire and mediaeval half-timbered buildings in the foreground. Original type frame and in excellent condition.
  8. (Grand Union Canal Co.) Enamel notice. “Danger of grounding other craft or breaching canal. Ensure proper closing of paddles. Do not leave lock until paddles are closed.” Red on white. 9” x 18” From Tring area. Chipping around fixing holes though only one letter affected.

This wagon is shown as standing at your station from the 14th to the 19th instant. Please say what the reason was for keeping it there.” Signed by C. Hobbs, the Company Accountant.

  13. B.R. Promotional fold-out brochure. “The Wye Valley” with a superb pictorial view looking down the Wye near Symonds Yat by Jack Merriott. Map of lines including Hereford – Three Cocks, Mid Wales – through Rhyader, etc. G. 1950’s.
  14. B.R. (NE) Promotional fold-out brochure. “Teesdale” with a superb full page picture with the river, watermill, etc. by T. Armstrong. Map shows the Stainmore line and line to Wear Head. Excellent condition. Dated 1950.
  15. B.R. (S) fully flanged totem “Erith”. Virtually mint. In south east London between Woolwich and Dartford.

Very good condition for its age. Burgundy leather boards. Co. title in gilt tooling.

  1. London Tilbury and Southend Railway. Barking and Pitsea Extension. First Turf Cut Thursday 11th Oct. 1883. Descriptive Account of the undertaking with map, pass notices, etc. all in gold tooling on red leather covers of Commemorative book. Inside the title page has illustration of loco “Tilbury”. On second page an ornate notice that “A Special Train will leave Fenchurch St at 12 o-clock for Rainham whence guests will be conveyed in carriages to Upminster.” Enclosed photo of the silver ceremonial spade on its ornate wheelbarrow. Lists of menus, toasts, programme of music, plan of tables and newspaper reports. Lavishly produced. Superb. 48 pp. 11” x 9”
  2. Shedplate 15D. Bedford 1948 – 4/58 Coalville 4/58 – 9/63. Ex loco condition. This is the earlier pattern with “tail” at the top of “1”. Uncommon.
  3. Carriage Print. “John Knox’s House, Edinburgh.” by Fred Taylor. A rare Pre-War print. Effective use of light and shadow evokes the atmosphere of 1930’s Edinburgh. Unframed and in mint condition.

  18. Southern Railway. General and Western Appendices to W.T.T. 26 Mar 1934.  Excellent condition. Much information about working of lines in Devon and Cornwall. 313 pp.
  19. 50+ negatives taken in the period 1959-63 in and around Plymouth – including many ex S.R. locos. Good quality.

  23. B.R. (W) Large card Platform Entrance Notice as displayed at Paddington:       “9.50 p.m. Second part for Reading, Didcot, Swindon, Liskeard, Par and principals stations to Penzance.” Black lettering on white. 20” x 30”.
  24. Unusual cast brass wagonplate “Notice when wagons are running over British Railway systems, this handle must be pushed in to fully expose the letter P and then wired to the lashing eye.  This is on the left part of the plate with the French version on the right. 9⅛” x 2½”.  Unrestored. Unusual – looks fairly old.
  25. L.M.S. Publication. “LMS Signalling Model. British Empire Exhibition Wembley 1925. Photos of the Miniature Railway, School of Signalling. Several attached photos of block instruments including several which are not usually associated with the Company (for example 4 flat topped possibly Tyer’s instruments) 2 fully coloured pull-out diagrams of “LMS Signalling Model”. A very interesting and uncommon publication. Grey covers with “Signalling Model” and LMS embossed.
