151*    GWR untitled Cast iron sign “BEWARE OF TRAINS” in totally ex trackside condition. A substantial sign – 26” x 19½”.

 

152*    GWR cast iron sign “NOT DRINKING WATER” front only restored, square with curved corners 6” x 4”.

 

153     Single line miniature Train Staff “ROTHERFIELD/ HEATHFIELD”, a section of the ex LBSCR line from Hurst Green to Polegate.

 

154*    BR(Sc) half flanged TOTEM “DUMBARTON CENTRAL” from the ex Dumbarton & Balloch (CR & NBR) Joint station on the north shore of the Clyde. Excellent colour & shine with minor edge chip repairs – an excellent example of a Scottish lower panel totem.

 

155*    BR(W) original Signal diagram on linen “BODMIN ROAD STATION” dated August 1954 in good condition – 60” x 19” .

 

156     Early unflanged rectangular white on black enamel Underground sign “GENERAL”. Certainly pre LT with one major chip & other edge chipping but would restore well – 30” x 6”.

 

157     LPTB 3 aspect HANDLAMP clearly embossed “L.P.T.B”, in unrestored condition & complete with unmarked vessel & burner – all glasses intact.

 

158*    SR Bulleid enamel cab warning plate “On this engine the steam for atomized lubrication is controlled from the cylinder cock lever”.  A couple of chip repairs otherwise good condition – 6” x 5½”.

161     “ROMANS AT CAERLEON”, issued 1933 –1939, 200 pieces with original booklet “Caerleon” & “Literature of Locomotion” booklet July 1934.

 

162     “KING ARTHUR ON DARTMOOR”, issued 1931 – 1936, 400 pieces.

170     “HISTORIC TOTNES”, issued 1933 – 1939, 200 pieces – slip box a bit tatty.

 

171*    “LOST IN TRANSIT”, a cardboard puzzle given one Christmas to the workers at Swindon to encourage them not to damage parcels in Transit – what a thoughtful present! Consequently most didn’t survive. This has one piece missing & one with paper damage, but it comes with the original small cardboard box it was presented in. By far the most difficult puzzle to obtain.

172*    Framed & glazed CARRIAGE PRINT “Little Moreton Hall, near Congleton, Cheshire” by Ronald Lampitt from the LMS (C) series. An attractive view of this old building & a rare print.  

 

173     Framed & glazed CARRIAGE PRINT “Kersey, Suffolk” by Horace Wright from the LNER post war series. A rare print produced around 1947 of the archetypal Suffolk village.

 

174     Unframed CARRIAGE PRINT “Ben Slioch & Loch Maree, Wester Ross” by W Douglas MacLeod in the larger format from the Scottish Region series. An attractive view of water & mountains & not common.

 

175     Framed & glazed CARRIAGE MAP “BR Manchester & Bury Line”, showing the intermediate stations between Victoria & Bury before the trams took over.

 

176*    BR(S) fully flanged TOTEM “BINGHAM ROAD”, from the Surrey suburban station. Excellent colour & shine with two well matched repairs at the lower edge.

 

177     LT large enamel one piece Underground target station sign “SOUTHGATE” from the North London station near the end of the Piccadilly line, missing its bronze cross frame but is the earlier type with a black line & white band at the edge. Generally good condition with some chips around the screw holes – 59” x 41” overall. Buyer collects.

 

178     BR(Sc) enamel sign “PASSENGERS CROSS THE LINE BY SUBWAY ONLY”, in its original wooden frame. The enamel has faded badly to a shade of grey & there are a few small chips, but a rare sign – 37” x 25”.

 

179     GWR Cast iron pre grouping untitled small gate notice 40/- Penalty, in totally ex lineside condition – 17” x 8½”.

 

180*    GWR enamel POSTERBOARD designation number “G.W.R. 807”, chocolate on cream, with only minor edge restoration – 6” x 3”.

 

181*    GNR oval Cast iron sign “GNR MAINTENANCE ENDS”, in totally ex lineside condition – oval 12” x 8” max.

 

182*    BR(S) half flanged TOTEM “ELTHAM PARK”, from the ex SECR station formerly known as Eltham Park & Shooters Hill on the line from Blackheath to Dartford. Excellent condition with great colour & shine & only once previously in auction in 1991.

 

183     Pack of 50 Black & white photos of GWR Steam (some early), varying sizes with dates & locations on rear. (50)

 

184     Single line staff “WEST CROYDON/ WADDON MARSH”, an ex LBSCR section on the branch to Mitcham Junction.

 

185*    SR Cast iron Tender plate “WATER 3700 GALLONS”, reputedly off a Bulleid “Q1” 0-6-0. Damaged at the left side but a rare plate – 4½” x 3¼”.

 

186     LNER 3-aspect HANDLAMP with brass plate “ London & North Eastern Railway WELWYN GARDEN CITY” from the Hertfordshire station on the East Coast Main Line. In good unrestored condition, complete with BR vessel & burner.

 

187      GCR fully titled Cast iron sign “Trespassers on this property will be Prosecuted”, in very rusty unrestored condition – 20½” x 11½” with scalloped corners.

           

188     Original rare coloured GWR signal box diagrams: (1) “CAMPSBOURNE STATION” 1896 with some water staining & edge tears; and (2) “DOUBLEBOIS STATION” 1916 with tears & edge damage. Also BR(S) “BERE FERRERS” in good condition. (3)

 

189     BR(E) flanged enamel Station sign “GENTLEMEN”. Good colour & shine – 36” x 12”.

 

190*    LNER Cast iron doorplate “TELEPHONE” with closed up letters as used on lineside cabinets. Unrestored – 11½” x 3½”.

 

191     BR(E) original Signalbox diagram “WALTHAM CROSS”, with cutouts for the lights to show through. Waltham Cross is between Tottenham & Cheshunt. Good used condition with a small tear at one end – 60” x 26”.

 

192*    SR unflanged enamel station sign “TICKET OFFICE AND WAITING ROOM” mounted on a wooden backing board. Superb colour & shine with only minor chip repairs around the screw holes – 37” x 11”.

 

193*    LT Underground frieze enamel “CHARING CROSS” with brown edges for the Bakerloo Line & with only minor chipping & scuffing – 57” x 9”.

 

194*    GWR Cast iron CABSIDE “9766”, from a 0-6-0 PT Class 5700 which was built at Swindon and went new to Duffryn Yard in October 1935. It spent most of its life there & then finally to Neath. It was withdrawn in July 1964 & cut up at Briton Ferry that year. Pretty much ex loco condition.

 

195     SHEDPLATE “12B” Carlisle (Upperby), 1948-50, Carlisle Canal 1950-51, Penrith 1955-58, then Upperby again 1958-66.

 

196*    BR(W) half flanged TOTEM “CHIPPENHAM” from the ex GWR station on the main line from Swindon to Bath. Good colour & shine with a few well-matched face chip repairs.

 

197     BR(S) flanged enamel DOORPLATE “PRIVATE”, with some minor chipping around screw holes & edges but having good colour & shine – larger size 18” x 6”.

 

198     Alloy single line key token “DULVERTON/ EAST ANSTEY”, a section of the closed ex GWR line from Barnstaple to Exeter & Taunton via Morebath Junction.

 

199     LSWR untitled Cast iron sign “ Warning Stop look & Listen before Crossing the Line” in ex line side condition – 32” x 15½.

 

200     LT Underground double sided enamel cab destination board ACTON TOWN/ NORTHFIELDS as used on Piccadilly Line trains – 24” x 4”.

 

201     BR(E) flanged enamel Running in Board “HARLOW TOWN”, from the ex GER station on the line to Bishops Stortford. Good colour & shine with edge rusting – one piece 116” x 21”. Buyer collects.

 

202     LT  Underground Carriage map showing the line from North Harrow to Aylesbury with “London Transport Underground” in target . In a modern glazed frame – 28½” x 12½”.

 

203*    BR flanged enamel station sign “STOCKPORT”, medium blue new image sign in mint condition, from the station to the south of Manchester – 38” x 15”.

 

204*    GWR Cast iron CABSIDE “6387”, from a 4300 Class 2-6-0 which was allocated new to Carmarthen in September 1921. Its later sheds were Banbury and Worcester from where it was withdrawn in June 1962. It was cut up at Swindon Works two months later. In ex loco condition.

 

205     SECR square fronted 3-aspect HANDLAMP with brass plates “SE&CR G7628” on the collar and “Mr Linton TONBRIDGE” on the body. Very good original condition complete with SECR vessel with integral burner and red and green glasses.

 

206*    Pullman brass builders plate “ The Pullman Car Company Limited built by The Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co Ltd SMETHWICK 1930”. A substantial & rare item 25” x 4½”.

 

207     BR(E) 3-aspect HANDLAMP with brass plate “BR(E) FERME PARK” relating to sidings near Finsbury Park on the East Coast Main Line. Restored ,undamaged & complete with its vessel & BR(E) marked burner.

 

208     Wooden Split Case Block bell with cowbell type bell on top & integral tapper. The front  is plated “THROUGH ROAD”. In good unrestored condition.

 

209*    BR(NE) half flanged TOTEM “HARROGATE”, from the ex NER Yorkshire station. In very good condition with only a couple of tiny repaired chips & retaining good colour & shine. One of the better names from this region & not easy to obtain.

 

210*    BR(M) small mirror map of “London Midland Main Lines & Connecting Lines”. Unusual item only 11” x 6” portrait.

 

211*    LT Station target enamel sign “WEST RUISLIP” from the Central Line terminus station. A very manageable fully flanged sign just 18” x 14” – a couple of small chips otherwise good condition.

 

212     GPO Road Work lamp embossed “Kenyons Searchlight Lens Lamp” & “GPO 1936”. No internals but an interesting old lamp – unrestored, plus a small wall mounted lamp by “Bladon of Birmingnam” stamped “GPO” complete with vessel & burner – also unrestored.

 

213*    Cambrian Railways Cast iron full title Trespass sign, of which the front only has been restored some time ago – 27½” x 18.

 

214*    GWR untitled Cast iron Crane warning notice “All loose crane handles must be removed…..”, in totally ex crane condition – 15” x 6½” with scalloped corners.

 

215      LT flanged blue on white enamel “Assistance and Tickets”, Garnier made & in virtually mint condition – 27” x 9”.

 

216*    LNER DR white on black enamel POSTERBOARD heading “LNER” in modern wooden frame. A rare item in this colour. Very good condition – the enamel is 26” x 5”.

 

217*    Enamel Station sign “STATION no person allowed to pass this station board until they have seen the deputy, by order”. Black on white enamel, possibly from a colliery line & certainly early, with a number of chips – 15” x 12”.

 

218     Irish single line miniature staff “BALLYGEARY/ ROSSLARE STRAND, a section in the extreme south east of Ireland near the ferry port & services to Fishguard.

 

219     LT underground carriage numberplate “9607” ex Northern Line stock.  White on blue background excellent condition – 5¼” x 1¼”.

 

220*    Brass oval WORKSPLATE “BUILT 1944 SR”, with the initials “LMS” ground off at the top. From a Class 8F 2-8-0, Nos (4)8661-70/72-78/81-704, built by the SR for the LMS at Brighton, Eastleigh or Ashford. In ex loco condition – 10½” x 6”.

 

221     LMS Silver-plated items, a pair of sugar tongs & small fork marked “LMS HOTELS”, both in good condition, & a teaspoon marked “LMS” in poor condition.  (3)

 

222*    BR(W) half flanged TOTEM “ST AUSTELL”, from the Cornish station between Par & Truro. A little mottled with consequent slight loss of colour & shine – no face chips but the usual edge rusting.

 

223*    SR enamel QR posterboard heading with” SOUTHERN RAILWAY” in Sunshine letters. Good colour & shine with edge chipping only – 52” x 5”.

 

224*    BR POSTER from the See Britain by Train Series “The Eastgate, Chester”, showing a 1960’s view of the town & famous Gateway. In excellent condition & on thick paper smaller than DR size – 30” x 20”.

 

225     BR(W) DR POSTER “Capitals United Express a new train” giving details of the new service between Cardiff & London. Good rolled condition.

 

226     BR POSTER QR “British Transport Ships” by C.King & QR Poster “Locomotives” by Wolstenholme, both in distressed condition. (2)

 

227*    BR(S) QR POSTER “Clapham Junction” by Terence Cuneo with one repaired tear bottom left otherwise good condition.

 

228     Set of Cast iron Running in Board letters from “LUXULYAN”, a former GWR station near Par in Cornwall which closed in 1964. The board is rather the worse for wear & the letters, which are 12” high, have been removed & are on sale today except for the N which was painted on the wood. If the purchaser would like the original wooden backboard  (93” x35”) it can be collected from Basingstoke.

 

229*    BR(S) flanged DOORPLATE “STATION MASTER”, good colour & shine with well executed repairs around the top 2 screw holes – 18” x 6”.

 

230     SHEDPLATE “56B” Ardsley 1956-65, with front only restored some time ago.

 

231     SR full title enamel sign “Passengers must not cross the line here”, red on white in good condition with repairs around screw holes – 26” x 16”.

 

232*    GWR Cast iron Signal box door notice, the rarer version with “is” included. In totally ex box condition – 11” x 8”.

 

233*    LT Underground enamel station sign in its original Bronze frame. At one end it has “CIRCLE & DISTRICT LINES” in white on yellow & green with arrow. The other end, also with arrow, has “METROPOLITAN LINE” in white on purple & under a double arrow with “BRITISH RAIL”. A very nice sign with a bit of everything & in good condition – rectangular 63” x 12”. Buyer collects.

 

234*    Enamel advertising sign “Spratts Budgerigar Mixture & Canary Mixture”, with “Spratts” as a bird at one end. Blue & black on cream in good condition with minor edge chipping only – 24” x 12”.

 

235     LT Underground double sided enamel cab destination board “EDGWARE/ KENNINGTON” as used on Northern Line trains – 24” x 4”.

 

236*    BR(S) fully flanged TOTEM “SOUTH MERTON” , an ex LSWR station between Wimbledon & Sutton. Excellent condition with great colour & shine & only sold once before in auction in 1987.

 

237*    GS & WR of Ireland Cast iron forty shilling gate notice. No paint, in as found condition – 11” square.

 

238*    Cast iron WORKSPLATE “BUILT 1949 CREWE” ex (LMS) Class 5 4-6-0 No 44720. A Perth loco for almost the whole of its working life, it had a brief final stay at Dundee Tay Bridge from where it was withdrawn in October 1966. It was cut up at Arnott Young, Old Kilpatrick the following June. Restored some time ago.

 

239     SR POSTERBOARD heading “TRAIN SERVICE”. These were used above boards displaying timetables mainly in the South West. Good restored condition – 46” x 5”.

 

240     Framed & glazed CARRIAGE PRINT “Runcorn Bridge” by Kenneth Steel from the LMS Railway Architecture Series - in its original frame.

 

241*    Unframed GWR CARRIAGE PANEL with 3 pictures in their original mount produced by Photochrom for the GWR in the 1890s, “Rozel Bay, Jersey”, “Plemont, Jersey” & “Pleinmont Point, Guernsey”. Good condition.

 

242*    Unframed GWR CARRIAGE PANEL with 3 pictures in their original mount produced by Photochrom for the GWR in the 1890s, “Trinity Church, Stratford-On-Avon”, “Warwick Castle” & “Kenilworth Castle”. Good condition.

 

243     Framed & glazed CARRIAGE PRINT “London Cleopatra’s Needle & Embankment” by Jack Merriott. A windswept scene with the obelisk guiding the view to St Paul’s Cathedral.

 

244*    Framed & glazed CARRIAGE PRINT “Lavenham, Suffolk” by Kenneth Steel from the LNER post war series. A fine painting of the Guildhall now owned by the National Trust.

 

245     Framed & glazed CARRIAGE PRINT “Temple Bar, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire” by Claude Muncaster from the LNER series.

 

246*    SR TARGET “GODALMING”, from the Surrey station close to Guildford. Excellent colour & shine with 3 well-matched repairs around screw holes. Fitted to a replacement wooden backing board.

 

247     GWR full title Cast iron trespass sign, restored some time ago – 30” x 21”.

 

248*    Wooden pattern for some form of loco wheel – 36” diameter with the number 1104 in raised letters. We have no other information but it is a complicated & well-made item & is certainly decorative. Buyer collects.

 

249     SR Cast iron full title 40/- trespass in ex trackside condition – 21” x 14½”.

 

250*    BR(Sc) fully flanged TOTEM “NEWPORT ON TAY WEST”, from the ex NBR station on the south bank of the Tay estuary. Good colour with some loss of shine.

 

251     Alloy single line key token “PENSFORD/ CLUTTON”, a section of the closed ex GWR line from Bristol to Frome.

 

252           LBSCR brass cased home signal repeater with a brass plate “3” on top. The original green dial is marked “LB&SCR” and displays a miniature brass post and finial and home signal arm. Very good condition, just lightly polished.

 

253     LSWR wooden cased wall-mounted phone with speaking trumpet, under slung bell & 2 earpieces that hang from hooks on the side. Complete with 2 enamel plates “Challenge before calling” & “For code ringing”. Very attractively presented.

 

254*    BR(S) flanged 2 line enamel DOORPLATE “LADIES ROOM” in excellent condition – 18” x 6”.

 

255*    WORKSPLATE “ BUILT 1964 SWINDON”, from either a Western D1027-9 or a Teddy Bear D9500-24. Alloy oval plate in ex loco condition - 10½” x 6”.

 

256*    LMS early 3-aspect HANDLAMP with slatted glass aspects, complete with BR LMR vessel & burner – unrestored.

 

257*    LT Underground frieze enamel “BLACKFRIARS with one edge green & the other yellow for the District & Circle Lines & with “DISTRICT LINE” in a green target. Some minor chipping & scuffing – 64” x 9”.

 

258     SR fully titled Cast iron sign “BEWARE OF TRAINS”, LSWR pattern restored some time ago – 26” x 16½”.

 

259*    SR enamel DR Posterboard heading with “SOUTHERN” in Sunshine letters. Excellent colour & shine with only minor edge chipping – 26” x 5”.

 

260*    GNR fully titled Cast iron forty shilling trespass sign with 7 lines of text – Kings Cross 1896. The front only has been well restored – 28” x 16”.

 

261*    10 Pooley GWR weighing machine registration plates all in ex use condition. Oval tinplate 4” x 2½”. (10)

 

262*    GWR brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “4986” from 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 “ASTON HALL” built at Swindon in January 1931 and allocated new to Penzance. Its later sheds included St Philips Marsh, Old Oak Common, Stafford Road, Stourbridge, Reading and Southall from where it was withdrawn in May 1962. It was scrapped at Swindon Works the following November. The restored front is clearly stamped with Class & Boiler details.  The actual building is situated in the Aston area of Birmingham, near Villa Park, and was once the home of the Scottish inventor, James Watt.

 

263*    BR(E) TOTEM “PLAISTOW”, an east London station on the ex LBSCR line from Liverpool Street. Excellent colour & shine & the best I have seen from this station.

 

264     Temporary signal box diagrams “ROYAL ALBERT BRIDGE” BR 1951, “LAIRA JUNCTION” BR 1965, “TAVISTOCK JUNCTION” engineers copy.  (3)

 

265*    SHEDPLATE “71G”, Bath Green Park then Weymouth. A sought after code in totally ex loco condition with very clear Eastleigh triangle & 2 extra small holes at the bottom that were drilled in BR days.

 

266*    BTC titled Cast iron sign “UNSAFE STRUCTURE KEEP OUT”. An unusual sign, unrestored, with black writing on a yellow background – 27” x 20”.

 

267     Birmingham Corporation untitled 2 sided circular enamel BUS STOP top. Red on white  “Buses Stop Here” with minor edge rusting only – 20” diameter.

 

268*    SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE “32551” from a LBSCR C1 Class 0-6-0 No 551 built by Vulcan Foundry in 1902, Works No 1823, and allocated new to Portsmouth. The Class were nicknamed “Vulcans”. In 1909 it was rebuilt, in common with the majority of the class, with a larger boiler to cope with increased freight loadings and reclassified as Class C2X. The Class as rebuilt became known as “Large Vulcans”. No 551 had moved to New Cross Gate by the time of the 1923 Grouping, when it became SR No 2551, and it remained there until the depot’s impending closure in 1947/8 required a move to Bricklayers Arms from where it was withdrawn in February 1960. It was cut up immediately at Ashford Works. Front only repainted a long time ago.

 

269*    BR pressed Alloy Signalbox Board “ST BUDEAUX FERRY ROAD”, from the South Devon box near Plymouth. Ex box condition – 70” x 6”.

 

270*    1960’s “ASPRO” station vending machine by the Self Serve Co of Weybridge. For the payment of 6d you could open one of the three drawers & relieve your hangover. Nice small machine in ex station condition (padlocked with no key) – 14” high by 6” wide.

 

271     BR Double Arrow motif from a Class 87 loco. Alloy with front painted silver, the rear ex loco & the edges bearing the remnants of the loco’s blue paint – 30” x 18”.

 

272     GWR Silver plated Sorbet dishes. A set of 4 all marked with “GWR HOTELS” in roundel & all in good condition.  (4)

 

273     BR(M) flanged enamel DOORPLATE “STAFF ONLY”, from Abergele & Pensarn station on the Chester to Holyhead line. Excellent condition with tiny edge chips – 18” x 3½”

 

274*    NER fully titled Cast iron trespass notice. A substantial sign with heavy rear lug but the rare “ R WEDGEWOOD SECRETARY” version. Ex trackside condition – 36” x 24”. Buyer collects.

 

275*    BR(Sc) flanged enamel Station sign “TICKET OFFICE”, with feathered arrow. Good colour & shine with minor edge chips – 24” x 18”.

                                                     

276      LNER wood cased three-position block instrument with plate “UP LINE” in unrestored condition.

 

277*    BR(S) fully flanged TOTEM “DORCHESTER SOUTH”, from the ex LSWR station on the line to Weymouth. Excellent colour & shine with only a couple of edge chip repairs on the bottom just into the green.

 

278*    GWR brass drum clock by “J.M.SKARRATT & CO PARIS”, with “2540” engraved twice on the brass & GWR under the makers name on the enamel. The enamel face is a little crazed but a very early pre grouping clock that came into the possession of the GWR in October 1921. In full working order with key.

 

279     BR(S) 4-aspect fogman’s HANDLAMP unmarked but ex Padstow. Complete with BR(SR) vessel & burner – unrestored.

 

280*    Trio of LSWR brass signal lever description plates, “7 Up Loop Points”, 9 Up Siding Points East” and “11 Down Loop Points”, attractively mounted on a display stand with a descriptive brass plate.

 

281*    SR Cast iron long version Gate Notice “Penalty for not Shutting & Fastening Gate £2”. Unrestored – 37” x 3”.

 

282*    BR(E) enamel sign “PLEASE HAVE ALL TICKETS READY”. Excellent colour & shine with only minor chipping around the screw holes – 16” x 10”.

284     BR(M) Fully flanged TOTEM “PARK STREET & FROGMORE”, an ex LNWR station on the branch from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey. In good condition overall with some minor well-matched repairs. A very rare totem last in auction in 1990.

 

285     GWR Cast iron key release instrument for use with ground frame keys at the frame itself. Embossed “GWR Signal Dept” & with operating instructions. Church door shape in unrestored condition complete with padlock (no key) – 11” tall.

 

286*    LT flanged enamel Street Direction sign “EAST ACTON STATION”. Arrow shaped sign with the Underground logo under the Central line station name. Some edge chipping & needs a good clean – 28” x 18” overall.

 

287*    GWR thick leather document wallet with brass plate “GWR TETBURY” & then like a magic square opens out & closes to reveal a brass plate “GWR AUDIT OFFICE PADDINGTON”. Very interesting & unusual item – 16” x 10” when closed.

 

288*    SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE “90458”, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built in May 1944 by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 5047, to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 78646, and shipped to Belgium. On returning to the UK, it was loaned to the LNER in December 1945 becoming their No 3137. In BR days it was allocated to Tyne Dock, Hull Dairycoates and finally Goole from where it was withdrawn in June 1967. It was cut up at Drapers, Hull the following December. Restored on the front with the ex loco back embossed “6’ 6” RADIUS”.

 

289*    BTC full title Cast iron sign “Rights of Way Act 1932…..”, the front restored some time ago – 25” x 16”.

 

290*    SR Cast iron tender plate “WATER 4500 GALLONS”, from a West Country Class Pacific & undamaged – 4½” x 3¼”.

 

291*    BR(S) fully flanged TOTEM “GIPSY HILL”, from the ex LBSCR station near Crystal Palace. Excellent colour & shine with only minor edge chipping. Only the second outing for a rare totem last in auction in 1996.

 

292*    Enamel bus sign “Royal Blue Express Coach Services Book Here”, with a map of the various coach routes. Multi coloured on remnants of original wooden mounting frame & in good condition with one small chip on the map – 30” X 20”.

294*    LNWR enamel Hamper notices from the refreshment rooms at CREWE & BIRMINGHAM. The one from Crewe is in very poor restored condition but the other is very good with only slight rusting on the lower edge. They were attached to hamper baskets that were taken on trains to ensure their return to the correct refreshment rooms – 8” x 3½”.  (2)

 

295     Glass inkwell embossed “LNER Co” in good condition & another engraved “GCR” with a small chip to the lip.  Both lack their glass stoppers. (2)

 

296*    LT QR POSTERBOARD heading “UNDERGROUND” in the 1930’s style & outlined with a white rectangular line (see lot 332). Edge chips & nibbles with one area of enamel loss at one end. Well worth restoration – 50” x 4¼”.

 

297*    LT Underground Carriage map “METROPOLITAN LINES” from the early 50’s in a modern glazed frame – 28½” x 12½”.

 

298*    BR(E) Trackside flanged enamel sign “DONCASTER ½ MILE” with feathered arrow. Dirty & with some holes but comes in two pieces, would restore well, & what do you get with Doncaster on? Each section 61” x 42”. Buyer collects.

 

299     NBR 3-aspect Bulpitt HANDLAMP stamped “NBR 5807” & “1827 S THORNTON” & with brass makers plate “ Bulpitt & Sons Birmingham 1906”, unrestored & complete with correct style unmarked vessel & burner & with all glasses undamaged. South Thornton was the junction south of Thornton Junction station where the Dunfermline line left the main line from Kirkcaldy to Dundee.

 

300*    NAMEPLATE “PRIDE OF EASTLEIGH” with its miniature Spitfire depot plaque badge, from BR Type 4 Class 47 Co-Co No D1916/47239/47657/47812 built by Brush in 1965, Works No 678. It was named by Virgin Trains at a private ceremony at Eastleigh on 6 February 2002 and the plates were removed in July 2003 following the withdrawal of the locomotive from service with Virgin Cross Country. In fine ex loco condition with a copy of a letter of provenance from Virgin Trains.
