301*       Severn & Wye Joint Railway glazed Noticeboard with gold shaded lettering “GW & LMS Rly Cos” and “SEVERN & WYE JOINT RAILWAY” and below a glazed area for notices. Overall 35” x 36” – a very rare item in good condition.

 

302         GWR brown canvas wartime cab blackout panel with “GWR” in roundel and “522” marked boldly on it. With 5 brass eyelets to take ropes the overall size is 38” x 40”. A  most unusual item.

 

303*       GNR wooden Signal Box name board with metal letters “ANCASTER” from a Lincolnshire box on the Sleaford to Grantham line. Unrestored – 52” x 13”.

 

304         Small silver plated Ice Bucket with carrying handle standing 5” tall and marked “PULLMAN CAR COMPANY” around shield, in generally good condition but having suffered a few minor knocks from use.

 

305         S&D Joint Cast Iron sign “S. & D.J.R. BEWARE OF TRAINS”, restored front and back – 26” x 16”.

 

306         SR unflanged enamel Running in Board “WELLOW”. In very good condition, with small repairs around screw holes, and a rare item from the S&D Joint station – 96” x 12”.

 

307         M&GN Joint (Midland pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP stamped “M&GNJR” and with a brass plate “KINGS LYNN”. Complete with BR(E) vessel and burner – restored.

 

308         GER sliding knob type HANDLAMP with copper lens hood and stamped faintly “GER WW5DST”. No internals – restored.

 

309*       S&D Large cream can clearly embossed “Empty to Prideaux’s Creamery Evercreech New Stn S.&D.J. RLY.” The can lacks it top but a very interesting item 9” diameter, 10” high.

 

310*       GWR 12” dial fusee trunk clock with rounded base. The clock’s dial has been well restored to the original “G.W.R.”  and it comes complete with Ivorine plate “GWR 375”. A superb clock in full working order rescued from the offices at Paddington when they were demolished to make way for a road. The original key is stamped 3 times “GWR”.

 

311         GWR wooden Running in Board “YEO MILL HALT”, from the station on the Taunton to Barnstaple line, 9ft long and heavy as it is very solidly built. The board has Cast iron letters and is in ex station condition. This item will have to be collected from Colchester.

 

312         GWR wooden Carriage board with “BATH” in cast iron letters on one side and “CHIPPENHAM” on the reverse. The wood is in poor condition and the cast iron very pitted but an early item – 32” x 4”.

 

313*       SR Carriage Print advert “LONDON & MANCHESTER ASSURANCE” with picture of a giant anteater. A few small stains at the bottom but not common and in an original SR frame.

 

314*       Cast Iron untitled gate notice “ Penalty for not shutting and fastening this gate after passing through it £2”, dug up from St Briavels & Llandogo station so possibly a Wye Valley Railway sign. Restored front only - 23” x 11”.

 

315         BR(Sc) Small Ticket conditions notice unusually in a Formica type material – 6” x 4”.

321*       Southern Railway TARGET “STOCKBRIDGE”, from the Hampshire station South of Andover. It has repairs to chips at either end and around the screw holes and slight scratching on 3 letters . Good colour but some loss of shine on this rare sign having only its second outing in auction.

 

322         S&D Joint wooden Track gauge with metal ends and spirit level, stamped “S&DJR No 2 DIST” and “S&DJR”. Complete and ready to use – 62” long.

 

323         3 Cast Iron S&D Joint Railchairs clearly marked in raised letters “S&DJR” and dated “1884,1904 and 1910“ respectively. Restored. (3)

 

324         Cambrian Railways white glazed earthenware saucer marked “Property of F.W.Hughes & Sons Ltd – return to Welshpool Station” –slight discoloration otherwise good.

 

325*       S&D Joint wooden Turntable notice with metal letters “Caution. All engines must stop before going on turntable………..”. This totally unrestored sign is from the Evercreech Junction turntable and can be seen in position in 1962 in Ivo Peters books and in the framed & glazed photograph which comes with this lot. A  superb item – 51” x 23”.

 

326         SR white on green lamp glass “STREATHAM”. A  bit faded – 16” x 5”.

 

327*       M&GN Joint wood & canvas station stretcher clearly marked in red “M&GN CROMER BEACH STATION”, from the terminus of the line from Melton Constable. Overall 96” long and in good condition.

 

328         BR(E) enamel sign “BEWARE OF TRAINS”, one central repair , pretty good colour and shine – 27” x 18”.

 

329*       S&D Joint Cast Iron Fire buckets notice in totally ex station condition – an excellent example of this attractive small sign – 16” x 10”.

 

330         GER small Cast Iron paperweight clearly stamped on the side “GER”.

 

331*       Brass WORKSPLATE “BUILT 1955 DERBY” painted blue and probably from an 08 diesel shunter. In totally ex loco condition and unusual in brass.

 

332         GNR 2-gallon petrol can with plate “GNR Petroleum CONINGSBY”, a station closed in 1970 on the Lincoln to Skegness line.

 

333         LNER 3-aspect HANDLAMP with large brass plate “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY LINCOLN YARD 160”. Complete with vessel marked kerosene and BR burner – restored.

 

334         LBSCR Time table for the Royal train carrying the Prince of Wales from Portsmouth Dockyard to Victoria on 11th October 1920. Excellent condition, trapped within glass – 6” x 9”.

 

335         GER small Cast Iron Fender with steel floor plate. The fender is marked “GER” – 31” x 5”.

 

336         GNR Cast Iron Fender with “GNR” marked in ornate writing – 42” x 12”.

 

337         LNWR Full title Cast Iron Gate Notice, front only restored – 18” x 18”.

 

338         Cast Iron SHEDPLATE “87F” Llanelly, front only repainted.

 

339         BR(M) flanged enamel station sign “WAY OUT PLEASE SHOW TICKETS” in very good condition – 36” x 12”

 

340*       BR(W) Half Flanged TOTEM “FROME”, from the Somerset station on the ex GWR main line to the West Country. It has a number of small face chip repairs and 2 of the top boltholes are damaged, but it still retains a good colour and shine.

 

341*       SECR wooden 2 sided station sign “Railway Ticket Office & Public Telephone” painted gold on brown. From Dover Marine station and unrestored  - 30” x 10”.

 

342*       LMS ex S&D 3-aspect HANDLAMP with oval brass plate “LMS B27477” and embossed ”LMSR”. There is a curved brass plate on the top “BERT GRAY TEMPLECOMBE” and an LM&SR burner.

 

343         NBR Buffer stop lamp with red bulls eye lens and large brass plate  “Battery End Aberdeen Road Train Reception Road LEITH WALK GOODS” and another plate “NBR”.  From the former goods yard in Leith Walk Edinburgh which received fish trains from Aberdeen (see lot 374). Complete with vessel and burner – unrestored.

 

344*       Collection of SECR brass Carriage fittings with nine mounted on a board and one loose. All are stamped SECR and include hinges and a door handle. (10)

 

345         GNR Cast Iron oval Bridge Plate “G.N.R. 23”, front restored only.

 

346         GWR penknife clearly marked “GWR” on the blade and with hardwood inserts on the handle.

 

347*       GCR spouted 1-gallon oilcan with 2 handles and brass plate “GCR WHITE MAY OIL TRAFFIC DEPT SNELLAND”, from a station closed in 1965 between Lincoln and Market Rasen. Lacking its cap – unrestored.

 

348         LNER quad royal Posterboard heading “L.N.E.R.”. Some damage particularly at the right hand end but retains good colour – 54” x 6”.

 

349         GNR/LNER Cast Iron Doorplate “GENERAL WAITING ROOM”. Red with white letters in totally ex door condition – 21” x 5”.

 

350*       GN&GE Joint Spring driven 8” dial Roundhead Clock. The face is painted “BR 13969” and “Smiths Empire” and the case is branded on the rear “GN&GE J C 82” and “GER” twice with “SLEAFORD” also lightly carved.  This delightful small clock was retrieved from Sleaford West Signal Box.

 

351         Dinorwic Quarries Horsebox Pot lamp with large brass plate “RIDSDALE’S RAILWAY LAMP & LIGHTING CO LTD MINORIES LONDON” which is also engraved into a large central brass ring. The lamp stands 16” tall - unrestored.

 

352         LYR 3-aspect HANDLAMP with bullseye lens and stamped “P10589”, “LYR” and “Permanent Way Dept R.A.Knottingley”, a LYR/GNR Joint location on the Leeds to Goole line. There is a brass plate “LYR” on the handle and the lamp has its original reservoir stamped “LYR”.

 

353         GWR Cast Iron CABSIDE “3812” from a 2800 Class 2-8-0 tender engine built Swindon 1939 and allocated new to Stourbridge. Later sheds were Cardiff Canton, Severn Tunnel Junction and Southall and the loco was scrapped in 1965 at Cohens, Morriston. Front restored back ex loco.

 

354*       GNR portable Bilge Pump on tripod legs with lettering “GNR ENGINEERS DEPT BOSTON”. The internal machinery is missing.

 

355         GN&GE Joint Signalman’s upholstered High Stool branded under the seat in large letters “GNR” and twice in smaller letters “GN&GE”.

 

356*       GCR 3-aspect HANDLAMP with bullseye lens and stamped “GCR” and “24471T”, with brass plate  “GCR 24471 SCARCLIFFE”, from a station closed in 1951 on the line from Chesterfield to Tuxford. Complete with LNER vessel and LMS burner – restored.

 

357*       BR(M) Fully Flanged TOTEM “FOUR OAKS”, from the ex LNWR Warwickshire station on the Birmingham to Lichfield line. It is undamaged but is a little mottled. A rare totem having only its second appearance in auction.

 

358         GWR 1 Pint Glass with “GWR” in roundel and “HOTELS” in scroll below.

 

359         LSWR Cast Iron Doorplate “LAMPS”, in ex door condition – 11” x 4”.

 

360*       BR(E) enamel station sign “PLEASE HAVE ALL TICKETS READY” good colour and shine but with a number of repairs – 28” x 7”.

 

361         GWR peaked cap with worked wire Badge “GWR” in roundel. Very good condition but you need a small head to wear it!

 

362         M&GN Joint (Midland pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP stamped “M&GNJR” and with brass plate “GUESTWICK”, complete with vessel and burner - restored.

 

363         GWR Cast Iron untitled sign re Crossing line by the bridge only. Front restored only, ex Ludgershall station, an ex MSWJ station closed in 1961 between Savernake and Andover – 43” x 19”.

 

364         GNR wooden Signal Box name board with metal letters “BARKSTON NORTH JUNCTION” on 2 lines from the Junction box near Barkston in Lincolnshire. Unrestored with one end missing of the wooden frame – 82” x 18”.

374*       LNER Blanket embroidered in large letters on a blue background “LNER”, “ABERDEEN KINGS CROSS FISH SERVICES” and “KINGS CROSS”. The rear is in a tartan effect. A good quality blanket that presumably was used to keep big fish warm on the long journey. Excellent condition - 54” x 62”. (see lot 343)

 

375*       S&D Joint 4” dial mantel clock spring driven with original enameled face marked “WINDER DERBY” and branded underneath “S&DJR”. This delightful 9” high clock was located in the shed foreman’s office at BATH GREEN PARK and was purchased from there.

 

376         Brass Penny in the Slot Toilet lock marked “ETAS No 5” – 4” x 13”.

 

377*       Midland Railway Engineer’s Department full title Cast Iron Fire Buckets Notice. A very attractive small sign with scalloped corners and well face repainted in red and cream. A  rare sign, and only 14” x 9”.

 

378         LNER 3-aspect HANDLAMP with double pie crust top and stamped twice “LNER” with brass plate “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY HAUGHLEY”. Complete with BR(E) vessel and burner – restored.

 

379         2 LMS Brass Toilet Roll holders one marked “LMS” and the other “LM&SR” both with hands to hold the wire loop which in missing from both. (2)

 

380*       GWR ornate cream ceramic “PASTE POT” initialed “G.W.R” in large letters on the top. Good condition apart from a small hairline crack on the base – 6” diameter and stands 4” tall.

 

381         BR(W) Half Flanged TOTEM “STOURBRIDGE JUNCTION”, from the Worcestershire station which is the Junction for the short branch to Stourbridge Town. It is in good condition apart from a couple of minor chip repairs and has good colour but a slight loss of shine.

 

382*       M&GN Joint Lamp Glass “MARTHAM” from the ex M&GN Joint station North of Yarmouth that was closed in 1959. The clear front glass has blue letters and behind is a separate piece of translucent glass - 12” x 3”.

 

383         LYR all copper rear mounted Station Wall gas lamp stamped “LYR” on the back. In good condition – restored.

 

384*       GCR Hanging Signal Box lamp – vessel and burner suspended from a curved wire hanger with glass missing. The vessel has an oblong plate “CROFT BANK”. Early lamp as Croft Bank, between Burgh-le-Marsh and Skegness, was renamed Havenhouse in 1900.

 

385         Cast Iron SHEDPLATE “8E” Northwich, in totally ex loco condition.

 

386*       Scottish Central Railway Cast Iron Lamppost with the ladder bars cast on each side  “BRIDGE OF ALLAN STN” probably from the opening of the station in 1848. This attractive unrestored post has a square base and is 110” tall. The successful buyer will need to collect this item from Colchester.

 

387*       Lamppost “BRIDGE OF ALLAN STN” as above. This item will be offered first to the purchaser of lot 386. To be collected.

 

388         BR(NE) flanged enamel station sign “CROSS THE LINE BY SUBWAY ONLY” on 2 lines. Excellent condition – 36” x 18”.

 

389         Southern Railway station TARGET “HAMPTON COURT”, from the terminus station at this famous location. It has minor chip repairs at the edges but retains an excellent colour and shine. It is fixed to a replacement backing board.

 

390         LNER pocket watch with “RECORD” on the enameled face and engraved “L.N.E.R. 2152” on the rear. In good condition, and working order.

 

391*       Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Refreshment Department Vesta matchbox from the Exchange Station Hotel Liverpool complete with its compliment of matches.

 

392         GNR Acme Thunderer guards whistle clearly marked “G.N.Ry” on one side and “P 1652” on the other. All the chrome plate has gone and one side is slightly pushed in.

 

393         Small LMS flare lamp with ornate letters engraved “LMS”. Unrestored – 6” long.

 

394         GNR Signalman’s wooden lamp yoke. Branded “GNR” and painted in gold “GNR SWINESHEAD” but lacking its chains and hooks – overall 36” long.

 

395         NBR all copper flare lamp of the “neck and bowl” type with brass plate “N.B.RAILWAY TELE DEPT”. Complete with cap and with just one small dent - 7” tall.

 

396         GWR 3-aspect double piecrust top Petrol HANDLAMP, a rare an ornate lamp stamped underneath “GWR” and with a small brass plate “GWR for Petroleum only”. Complete with original vessel and burner, the latter being clearly marked ”GWR”. Unrestored but stripped of paint.

 

397         GWR 3-aspect HANDLAMP with fluted top. This rare lamp is stamped “GWR” and has a brass plate “59” plus a makers plate ”Lindley & Co”. Complete with original vessel and burner – restored.

 

398*       BR(W) flanged enamel station sign “CAFETERIA & BAR”. A very unusual sign in good condition with only minor edge chips – 60” x 12”.

 

399         GW & L&NWR JT Rys titled Cast Iron Gate Notice, restored front only – 21” x 14”.

 

400         BR(W) enamel DR posterboard heading “BRITISH RAILWAYS”. Minor repaired edge chips only, with good colour and shine – 27” x 4”

 

401         S&D Joint reward poster from 1924 offering a £2 reward for information leading to conviction of persons causing damage to carriages of the Somerset & Dorset Joint line. In a modern glazed frame 16” x 12”.

 

402         BR(E) (LNER pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP embossed BR(E) and stamped “R.H. 9.48” and  “WISBECH ST MARY”. Complete with vessel and burner – restored.

 

403         GWR Cast Iron doorplate “BOOKING OFFICE”, in totally ex door condition – 24” x 4”.

 

404*       Cast iron SMOKEBOX numberplate “80093” from a BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4 tank built at Brighton in 1954 . It was shedded at Newton Heath and Blackpool before moving to Perth from where it regularly worked the Killin branch. Withdrawn in September 1966 and scrapped at Campbells in Airdrie in January 1967. The plate is in totally ex loco condition.

 

405         GNR pattern block bell with square polished wood case and under slung bell.

 

406*       3 small brass cab description plates from a Bulleid Pacific all in ex loco condition – “GENERATOR”, “CAB SPRAY PIPE” and “TENDER COAL SPRAY” (3)

 

407         GWR Black serge Jacket & Waistcoat manufactured by J.Compton. Both are unused, the Jacket having 3 GWR roundel buttons and the waistcoat 5.

 

408*       LNWR white ceramic Vomit pot that would be used on their ships. It has a black Britannia crest on the side with the full company title in scroll – good condition overall.

 

409*       NER Station enamel sign in its original ornate wooden frame “BOOKING HALL” with finger pointing left. The enamel has good colour and shine with only a couple of edge chip repairs, the frame has been repainted – Overall 31” x 18”.

 

410*       GWR large 3-aspect fluted top HANDLAMP with bullseye lens. There is a large cast brass plate “SIGNAL DEPT FROME” and brass plates on top “RED” and “GREEN”. This very rare lamp comes complete with vessel and burner – unrestored.

 

411*       LNWR all brass wall fitting steamship lamp with 3 bevelled glass sides and stamped “1st CLASS Entrances & Passages L & NWR”. Complete with hanging bracket and burner – unrestored.

 

412         GNR wooden Signal Box name board with metal letters “TUXFORD JUNCTION” from the Junction box with the GCR in Nottinghamshire. Restored – 104” x 13”.

 

413         GN&GE Joint Cast iron sign “Beware of Trains look both ways…………” front only restored – 22” x 12”.

 

414         Brass Cash Bag plate “BR ER EMPTY TO SKEGNESS No 1”.

 

415         2 GNR shunters flags one red and the other yellow on round wooden poles 36” long both clearly marked “GNR”. (2)

 

416     GNR 1/8th Gallon oil can with brass plate “G.N.R. 1211”- restored.

 

417         LNER 3-aspect (GNR pattern) HANDLAMP with double piecrust top stamped “LNER” and with brass plate “London North Eastern Railway LINCOLN YARD101”. Complete with LNER vessel and burner – restored.

 

418*       LBSCR Platform lamp interior, the vessel with brass plate “LONDON BRIGHTON & SOUTH COAST RAILWAY COMPANY” and a makers plate “S.L.C. London”. The brass burner is stamped “GWR”– 7” square.

 

419*       Caledonian Railway double sided trespass enamel . White on blue sign with repairs to the edges and a few minor chips on either side. Overall in superb condition for a very early and desirable enamel – 17” x 23”.

 

420*       LNER roundhead 10” dial fusee clock. The original face is painted “L.N.E..R.” and below in ghost writing appears to be “220”.

 

421*       GCR large rectangular copper plate from paraffin can “Paraffin empty to New Holland Stores full to GCR Wickenby station”. New Holland is on the South bank of the Humber, Wickenby a station between Lincoln & Market Rasen.

 

422         LD&ECR Cast Iron luggage rack bracket clearly embossed “L.D.E.C.R” - unrestored.

 

423         GER 3 aspect sliding knob type HANDLAMP stamped ”6.1.06” and “HARWICH 38” on the top. Complete with GER vessel and unmarked burner – unrestored.

 

424         BR(E) Half Flanged TOTEM “WOODBRIDGE”, from the ex GER Suffolk station on the Ipswich to Lowestoft line. In good condition, with only edge chipping, with good colour but a slight loss of shine. A rare totem from a picturesque location last in auction 1994.

 

425         S&D Cast Iron Occupation Crossing sign, titled “London & South Western & Midland Companies – Somerset & Dorset Railway”, front only restored – 26” x 19”.

 

426         Cast Iron Oval Bridge Plate “LNWR 53”, face restored.

 

427         LSWR Shelf Plate “TORRINGTON”, black on white enamel from a box on the Barnstaple to Halwill Junction line which closed in 1965 – 3” x 1”.

 

428         S&D Joint 3-aspect LSWR Type HANDLAMP with “S&D” stamped onto the body and the top brass ring. Rear wire type handles and complete with LMS vessel and burner – restored.

 

429         NER 3-aspect lamp with bulls eye lens and stamped “NER” and “GREENSFIELD”. I am not sure of the purpose of the lamp or where Greensfield is. Lacks burner – restored.

 

430         NER massive all copper signal lamp with and piecrust top and with brass makers plate” McKenzie & Holland Worcester”. Unrestored - 22” tall.

 

431*       2 sided wooden destination Board “ELDERSLIE”. Painted wood with cast iron pins at either end for hanging. Ex station condition – 30” x 5”.

 

432         LNWR double sided hanging wooden Station sign with metal letters “KEEP TO THE LEFT”. Unrestored – 30” x 9”.

 

433         Caledonian Railway small metal leaflet rack with 3 compartments, painted black with “CALEDONIAN” stamped on and a brass makers plate “Bulpitt & Sons 1891 Birmingham”.

 

434*       Kent & East Sussex full title Cast Iron Trespass notice with many lines of very small writing. A very nice sign in totally ex-lineside condition – 19” x 15”.

 

435*       GWR 6 ft Platform seat with Cast Iron legs of the early entwined initials type and with replacement slats. The casting dates back to the 1890’s. This item will have to be collected from Colchester.

 

436*       SR 2-gallon oil drum with brass plate “SIGNAL LINEMAN BLANDFORD”.

 

437*       M&GN Joint copper topped Wall lamp plated “TWENTY”, a station, closed in 1959, on the Spalding to Bourne line. One glass panel is cracked and there is no burner.

 

438         NBR 3-aspect pie crust top HANDLAMP stamped ”NBR” and “S.HADDINGTON” and with plate “5473”, from the terminus of the short branch from Longniddry which closed in 1949. Complete with LNER vessel and burner – restored.

 

439         LMS Midland pattern Chamber pot with “LMS” in ornate letters and 2 gold bands. Small chip under rim that doesn’t show and internal short hairline crack. Marked under “MINTON”.

 

440*       BR(W) enamel DOORPLATE “LEFT LUGGAGE”, good colour and shine but 4 chip repairs – 18” x 4”.

 

441         GNR Cast Iron one piece Forty Shillings Gate Notice. Rounded ends, restored front and back – 40” x 4”.

 

442         Cast Iron SHEDPLATE “89D” Oswestry, front only repainted.

 

443         GN&GE Joint ¼ gallon oil can with plate “ GN&GE SCOPWICK” complete with stopper. From Scopwick & Timberland, an ex GN/GE Joint station, closed in 1955, on the Lincoln to Sleaford line.

 

444         S&D Joint Cast Iron Fire buckets notice. An attractive and popular small sign in excellent condition. Restored front only - 16” x 10”.

446         Brass tablet “LENWADE-WHITWELL 3” in its leather and metal tablet holder.
