151*       SECR enamel doorplate “TICKETS” blue on white with border. Minor repairs but overall good for an early sign – 15” x 4”.

 

152*       West Highland Railway white china Butter Dish, Clearly marked “ West Highland Railway Refreshment Rooms – Return to Crianlarich Refreshment Rooms”, 2 compartments made by Frains of Dundee in excellent condition - 7” x 4”.

 

153*       GWR double sided wooden hanging station sign with metal letters “ TO PLYMOUTH & LONDON” with pointing hand (missing from one side), from Par and in ex station condition – 79” x 10”.

 

154*       Caledonian Railway Enamel Signal box name board “FORTH BRIDGE” from the Forth Bridge near Alloa. White on blue enamel with edge repairs and a central crease repair to look very good with excellent colour and shine. Only 26” x 6” so easy to display.

 

155*       Furness Railway Messengers patent Corrugated 3-aspect HANDLAMP with oblong brass plate “PLLR 5” and cast brass plate “Messengers Patent Corrugated Lamp” and their coat of arms. Complete with original vessel and burner – unrestored.

 

156*       Great North of Scotland Railway large 3-aspect HANDLAMP, stamped “GNSR” in 2 places and with brass plates  “MORTLACH SIDING” and” GREAT NORTH OF SCOTLAND RAILWAY COMPANY”, with original GNSR stamped vessel and LMS burner. Mortlach Siding is on the Keith Junction to Craigellachie line.

 

157*       S&D Joint Brass signal lever plate “13 UP STARTING SIGNAL” ex MIDFORD Signal Box.

 

158         Cast Iron oval Bridge Plate “GNR 13” casting S200, restored front only – 12” x 8” overall.

 

159*    BR(S) flanged enamel station direction sign “LONDON BATH & BOURNEMOUTH TRAINS OVER THE BRIDGE” from Templecombe. A  top class sign in very good condition with only minor edge chipping – 72” x 12”.

 

160         GWR Porters single aspect HANDLAMP stamped “GWR” and with brass plate “6”. Complete with GWR vessel and burner – totally unrestored.

 

161         BR(E) flanged enamel station sign “TO PLATFORM 1” with arrow in good condition – 24” x 18”.

 

162         3 M&GN Joint Cast Iron rail chairs all clearly marked “M&GN” with 2 dated 1900 and the other 1896. All 3 have been restored. (3)

 

163         MS&L Cast Iron warning sign “MS & L Ry. STOP TAP 19Ft”, face restored – 12” x 8”.

 

164         Caledonian Railway Acme Thunderer guards whistle clearly marked “C.R”. All the chrome has been worn away but it is still in good working order.

 

165*       LNER enamel Lamp Tablet “WITHAM”. Horseshoe shaped black on white sign that hung beneath a gas lamp on this ex GER Essex station between Chelmsford & Colchester. Edge chips restored to look good.

 

166         2 SR Vacuum Pressure gauges marked 0-30 inches and made by Gresham & Craven Ltd – both in good condition and 6” diameter. (2)

 

167         BR(E) unflanged enamel Running in Board “ SWINDERBY”. Some chipping and a bit faded but a sought after Lincolnshire location – 84” x 16”.

 

168         British Railways in totem DR Poster “ROYAL DEESIDE” by Kenneth Steel from the “See Britain by Train “ series. An attractive painting of highland scenery, in good condition with a tear at the bottom repaired with acid free tape. Would frame well.

 

169         Large Cast Iron kettle marked BR(E) with copper lid .

 

170*       GWR 7” dial fusee Mantel clock with fancy fretwork on both sides. The original face is engraved “KAY, MAKER” and has an ivorine plate “GWR 1496” attached underneath .The clock stands 14” tall and comes from the Swindon Works Offices.

 

171         Possibly WC&PR 2 part Cast Iron gate notice “SHUT THIS GATE” and “PENALTY FOR NEGLECT £2”. Very old castings with the fronts restored and the backs as they were found.

 

172         LMS Horsebox Pot Lamp with brass plate “LMSR CO”. The brass burner is stamped “LMS” and the lamp stands 16” tall.

 

173         M&GN Joint (Midland pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP stamped “M&GNJR” and with convex brass plate “No 697 GUESTWICK”. Complete with LNER vessel and burner – unrestored.

 

174         Aluminium black on yellow painted 2 sided Carriage board “WATERLOO” and “WEYMOUTH” with rubbers on each end. Good ex carriage condition – 31” x 5”.

 

175*       BR(E) Flanged Enamel Station direction sign with arrow, rectangular 21” x 10” in ex street condition with minor chipping and slight mottling.

 

176         GWR Cast Iron Office Paperweight, rectangular with GWR initials on top – 4” x 2”.

 

177         S&D Joint Sloping front 3 position wooden cased block Instrument with enamel plate “DOWN LINE”, from Horsington Crossing Box.

 

178*       GNSR all brass platform lamp interior of unusual design and stamped “GNSR”, from the layout with 2 tanks and gas pipes I would guess it to be Carbide.

 

179         LBSCR Tail lamp with large cowled red bulls eye lens, the body has a brass plate “SRA 128” and is embossed “LB&SCR”. The back bracket is stamped “S128”, and the hinge “LBR” complete with reservoir and burner and in good restored condition.

 

180*       GCR brass WORKSPLATE “GREAT CENTRAL Rly BUILDERS 1907 GORTON WORKS”, from a GCR class 9J 0-6-0 Nos 283 –309/311 – 318, becoming LNER Class J11 Nos 5283 – 5317 and finally BR 64398 – 64432. Cleaned and repainted and appears to have been lightly face skimmed.

 

181         2 early GWR bone guards whistles both engraved “GWR” one with a chain and the other with a brass plate “N4” attached. (2)

 

182*       GCR Appleton’s Patent 3-aspect HANDLAMP, the body has a large copper plate “GCR 7055 GUNNESS” and the lamp is stamped GCR. The brass propeller top and a small brass plate are both stamped “Appleton’s patent”. The lamp has a GCR vessel and LMS burner. GUNNESS & BURRINGHAM station between Scunthorpe and Althorpe was closed in 1916.

 

183*       Spouted oil can with handle and large brass plate “FRINTON ON SEA Petroleum Oil for long burning lamps”. Lacking its top and a little rusty still a delightful little item.

 

184         LSWR Cast Iron sign “BEWARE OF TRAINS”, in ex track condition with the LS painted out in chocolate and ex Instow station near Barnstaple – 26” x 16”.

 

185*       Irish Railways double sided white on black enamel sign “TO RAILWAY STATION” with pointing hand. The sign, made by the Imperial Enamel Co. Birmingham, has 2 hanging holes at the top, and apart from slight chip repairs around these is virtually mint. A superb sign – 22” x 9”.

 

186*       Great North of Scotland Railway Steel Train Following Board, painted yellow on red “CULTER TRAIN FOLLOWING”. 2-sided sign 18” diameter with top handle in ex loco condition. Culter was a station on the Royal Deeside line which closed in 1966.

 

187         BR(S) Fully Flanged TOTEM ”HAVANT”, from the Hampshire coastal station, in  good condition with some minor chip repairs. Excellent colour and shine.

               

188         Cast Iron SHEDPLATE “82B” St Philips Marsh, repainted front only.

 

189         BR(E) quad royal posterboard heading “BRITISH RAILWAYS”. Some restoration to look good – 50” x 6”.

 

190*       Southern Railway TARGET “CHEAM”, from the Surrey suburban station. It has a quite large repair at the top right and edge chip repairs but the letters are not affected and it retains good colour and shine. It is fixed to its original backing board. A rare target not available previously.

 

191         LNWR Bryant & May Vesta Tin plate Matchbox marked “L&N.W.RLY.HOTELS” and listing 8 towns with hotels. Complete, but empty with lid loose.

 

192         LD & ECR wooden Signal lamp yoke complete with hanging chains and hooks and clearly stamped “LD&ECR”. In ex shoulder condition – 36” long.

 

193         LSWR 3-aspect HANDLAMP with side door opening, stamped ”LSWR” and with a small brass plate “SER”. Complete with vessel and burner – restored.

 

194         S&D Joint (Midland Pattern) Bullseye Loco HEADLAMP with small brass plate lightly stamped “SDJR”. Complete with BR vessel and burner – restored. The plate may be a later addition?

 

195*       M&GN Joint Cast Iron Bridge Restriction sign “M&GN Warning No Locomotive or Vehicle with load exceeding 10 tons weight shall pass over this Bridge By Order” on its original concrete post with “28.8.22” cast into the concrete. This sign is thought to be unique as confirmed by the writer Ronald H Clark in a letter – 23” x 14” with the post extending 46”, all in totally ex line side condition.

 

196         BR(E) two sided flanged enamel station sign “WAY OUT” with arrow. In good condition with only minor edge chipping – 48” x 12”.

 

197         LMS Metal Polish tin with contents, circular 4” diameter marked top and bottom “METAL POLISH L.M.S.”.

 

198         GWR brass toilet roll holder complete and clearly marked “GWR” at the top.

 

199*       LMS wooden Signal Box name board with metal letters “PARKLEE” from a level crossing between Woodhall and Langbank the Glasgow to Gourock line. The box opened in 1891 and closed in 1966. Comes with framed & glazed photo of the box and crossing. Unrestored – 45” x 11”.

 

200*       South Devon Railway wooden office chair on castors made in mahogany and with “SDR” carved in an oval on the top rail. Bought from a BR sale in the late 50’s with paperwork to show that it came from Newton Abbot. Good condition standing 37” high.

 

201         LNER first series Cathedral plate “DURHAM” in good condition.

 

202         MR enamel Fire buckets sign. A very popular small enamel and this one is in good condition with excellent colour and shine and has only slight edge rusting – 11” x 6”.

 

203         S&D Joint Cast Iron 40/- Trespass sign, with full title “Somerset & Dorset Joint Line” face restored only – 26” x 22”.

 

204*       GWR bakelite 6” dial wall clock, the original enamel face is marked “SMITH 8 DAY” and the clock is engraved “GWR 3991” in 3 places. In good condition with a small chip to the glass and in working order.

 

205         LNER 3-aspect HANDLAMP embossed “LNER” and stamped “LENWADE 11”. Complete with LNER vessel and burner – stripped of all paint.

 

206         BR(S) Enamel sign “PLEASE SHOW TICKETS”, slight scratching, good colour and shine – 16” x 10”.

 

207         GWR double-sided Clothes brush with GWR branded on top and also picked out in the bristles. Slight separation otherwise good.

 

208         GNSR metal luggage label rack with carrying handle. Pyramid shaped tiered on 5 levels on each side, with 8 compartments on each level and with brass makers plate “W.Shirras Aberdeen”. Overall 25” x 24” and containing a few GNSR luggage labels.

 

209         Carriage Print “Britannia Tubular Bridge North Wales” by Kenneth Steel from the Railway Architecture series. Excellent condition in an original style frame.

 

210         SR enamel warning sign “ Southern Railway Passengers must not cross the line here”. Red letters on white and not common in this size. Good condition with minor chipping 26” x 16”.

 

211         S&D Joint tail lamp with large red bullseye lens and a small clear one. On the top is an oval brass plate “SOMERSET & DORSET JOINT RAILWAY”. Complete with LMS stamped vessel and burner – stripped.

 

212         GWR early general-purpose square HANDLAMP with a fluted top and glass on 3 sides. The body has a kidney shaped brass plate “G.W.R. No.”. Complete with unmarked vessel and burner – restored.

 

213         GNR leather Gladstone cash bag with clasp engraved “GNR LINCOLN”

 

214*       BR(W) Fully Flanged TOTEM “THEALE” , from the Berkshire station close to Reading. It is in very good condition with good colour and shine and only slight edge chipping. A  rare totem not previously available.

 

215*        GWR Cast Iron doorplate fully titled “GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY NO ADMITTANCE EXCEPT ON BUSINESS”. Face repainted – 14” x 9”.

 

216         GWR Vacuum Brake pressure gauge marked 0-30 inches of Mercury. “GWR” in large letters on the face and stamped on the brass rim “ GWR  6 12 99”. Good used condition – 6” diameter.

 

217         Cast Iron oval Bridge Plate “GNR 36” casting G4, front restored only.

 

218         2 small BR(W) Enamel signs from outside the ticket office re “TICKET CONDITIONS” and “GENERAL BYE LAWS”. Both good condition 6” x 4”. (2)

 

219         LNWR String can stamped “LNW” with removable lid. A little dented – unrestored.

 

220*       LMS Hawkseye aluminium station target “BITTON” in good ex station condition from the Midland Station on the line from Bath Green Park to Bristol and the North.

 

221         GCR signal box diagram, in its original glazed frame, for NORTH KELSEY on the Great Central line North of Lincoln. An original diagram with some parts taped over and dated “17.10.10”.

 

222         GWR small wooden cabinet with glass fronted opening door and one shelf. Branded underneath “GWR” and varnished to look good – 18” x12” x12”.

 

223         Preston & Wyre Railway large all copper Station lamp with 4 decorative lead corner pieces painted red. Not company marked and lacks internals – unrestored.

 

224*        LBSCR Horsebox Pot lamp with large brass hinge stamped “LBSCR” and a brass plate “E”. Both of the inners are stamped “LBSCR” and the burner ”SR”. The lamp stands 18” tall - restored.

 

225         LNER list of passenger fares from ARBROATH station covering all stations from “A – K”, in its original glazed frame. A printed item that had the station name and relevant fares written in by hand.

 

226*       GWR small Cast Iron lift warning sign “ CAUTION NO GATES” from Bath Spa Station. Face repainted only – 6” x 3”.

 

227         LNER Kesick Ware Soup Bowl marked underneath “KESICK L.N.E.R.”, overall 8” diameter and in very good condition.

 

228*       GER Office chair with upholstered seat and with “GER” carved on the back rail.

 

229*       BR 0-100 m.p.h. Speedometer recovered from Troon Scrapyard from the Duchess of Gloucester (loco not lady). Overall diameter 10” and 4” deep, manufactured by SMITHS no.21396.

 

230*       M&GN Joint (Midland pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP stamped “M&GN” and with convex brass plate “M&G.N.J.R. 65 ATTLEBRIDGE”. Complete with MR vessel and burner – unrestored.

 

231         GNR 3-aspect HANDLAMP stamped “GNR 16990” and with a large brass plate “GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY COMPANY STROUD GREEN 1”. There is also a steel relocation plate “WEELEY”. Complete with vessel and burner but red lens missing – restored.

 

232         BR(Sc) Flanged enamel DOORPLATE “LADIES”, in very good condition – 18” x 4”.

244*       BR(Sc) Half Flanged TOTEM “CORNHILL” , from the ex GNofSR Banffshire station North of Aberdeen. It has a quite large chip repair in the blue of the lower panel – otherwise good colour with slight loss of shine. A rare totem only twice in auction.

 

245*       Cast Iron 9 x 5 WORKSPLATE “LNER 5242 1904” ex G.C.R. J11 0-6-0 No. 64371, Vulcan Foundry Works No. 1932. The loco was Lincoln shedded in the mid 1950’s and was scrapped at Gorton Works. The front of the plate appears to have been lightly skimmed.

 

246         GNR wooden Ditching spade with metal capping on the blade. In excellent condition ex Grantham Permanent Way and carved “GNR” with a brass makers plate from “PETERBORO” – 45” long.

 

247*       Enamel lamp tablet “MANGOTSFIELD” from the ex MR station, closed in 1966, which was the Junction of the lines from Bath & Bristol to the North. Blue on white in good condition with repaired edge chips – 17” x 4”.

 

248         HST stainless steel “swallow” motif in good ex loco condition.

 

249         Silver plated 2-handled sugar dish engraved “LMS CARS” in rectangle and in good original condition.

 

250*       S&D Joint large Signal box drop case wall clock 47” long, and with 19” dial. The face is painted “Dell Bros Bristol” and the clock has a paper label stuck inside “Somerset and Dorset Joint Line Clock No 71 Glastonbury Signal box – This label must not be removed”. The clock is weight driven.

 

251         SR Cast Iron untitled sign “STOP LOOK & LISTEN”. Front only restored – 32” x 16”.

 

252         Caledonian Railway Platform lamp with witches hat style top and complete with LMS vessel and burner. Wall mounted by a rear bracket and in excellent overall condition – restored.

 

253         SR station TARGET “WOKING” from the Surrey main line station. In good condition with only minor chip repairs, good colour and shine.

 

254*       BR(S) flanged Signal Boxboard “STOCKBRIDGE” in good condition with a well executed repair in the letter “K”. Good colour and shine from a sought after location – 84” x 12”.

 

255*       GWR full title portrait style enamel trespass notice white on blue, in generally good condition with some small repairs but good colour and shine – 22” x 30”.

 

256         GWR gangers occupation key instrument, Church door shape, the front embossed “GWR Signal Dept” - restored.

 

257         GNR 3-aspect double piecrust top HANDLAMP with large brass plate “Great Northern Railway Company BAWTRY 2” and “Polkey” makers plate, from a station closed in 1958 on the ECML between Retford & Doncaster. Complete with LNER vessel and burner – restored.

 

258*       Early GWR Engine headlamp with 2 bullseye lenses and ornate plate “GWR”. There is a brass makers plate “C.J.Davies……” and the bracket is stamped  “A48” also the body “GWR”. Complete with its original stamped vessel and burner – restored.

                                                                                                                                               

259         GNR small glass whisky tumbler with “GNR R.R” embossed underneath. There is a small crack in the glass.

 

260         SR Cast Iron full title 40/- trespass sign, restored front and back – 24” x 16”.

 

261*       SR ticket conditions enamel sign in its original wooden frame. It is in virtually mint condition with no chips or marks – overall 11” x 8” in the frame. A very attractive and popular small sign.

 

262*       Wooden Steamer Destination Board “WHITE STAR TRAIN” from Greenock Princes Pier, with the lettering ‘diamond cut’ into the wood. The sign has metal end brackets and probably dates from 1893-4 when the pier was rebuilt by the G&SWR as a major rail/steamer interchange. Unrestored – 44” x 8”. See lots 71, 72,549 and 550

 

263         SR enamel sign “Southern Railway Smoking strictly prohibited”. Red letters on white with minor restoration to chips around the screw holes – 16” x 12”.

 

264*       2 brass Safe Makers plates. Both have the same ornate design and are embossed “ Milners Patent Fire-Resisting 212”. One is painted and both have been a little damaged in their removal but they are very ornate items – 8” diameter. (2)

 

265         BR(S) square guards van lamp with red and clear bulls eye lenses, stamped “5389” on the body, and with a brass plate “BR(S) ST 5389”. Lacks its internals – restored.

 

266         S& D Joint 4-aspect HANDLAMP with 2 brass plates “S&DJR 6518” and the body is stamped “B and MR Co”. The red glass has a small loss and the orange is cracked but looks good and is complete with SR burner.

 

267         GWR large tunnel workers flare lamp, clearly stamped “GWR” on both sides – 18” long.

 

268         GWR post grouping Cast Iron doorplate “PORTERS”, face repainted – 18” x 4”.

 

269     GWR wooden Jigsaw puzzle “THE ST JULIEN” [side view]. The puzzle, which is complete and original, has been framed and glazed but is not stuck down. Both puzzle and box are in very good condition.

271         Aluminum key token in holder “FROME NORTH – MELLS ROAD”. The top end of the key is broken off (not the key end).

280         GWR Cast Iron doorplate “LAMP ROOM”, front only repainted – 15” x 5” with scalloped corners.

 

281*       S&D Joint Station Train Running indicator recovered from Bath Green Park station. Thin plywood construction with 4 columns “Due”, “From”, “Mins Late” and “To”. The due and Mins late in blackboard form to write on in chalk.  A little tatty but an interesting item.

 

282         Cast Iron oval Bridge plate “GNR 12” in totally ex bridge condition.

 

283         LSWR Shelf plate “YEOFORD”, black on white enamel, from a box on the Exeter to Barnstable line - 3” x 1”.

 

284*       GN&GE Joint pegging block instrument with large brass plate “FROM FRENCH DROVE”. There has been an additional housing added at the back much later. The base is marked LNER and the instrument came from Postland Box on the March to Spalding line.

 

285         NER small copper ladle marked “NER&”, in used condition with some small marks and with remnants of silver plating.

 

286         GWR Horsebox Pot lamp with large brass hinge stamped “J251” and burner “GWR”. The lamp stands 16” tall - restored.

 

287         NBR Bulpitts Patent 3-aspect HANDLAMP stamped “NBR” and  “2503 S WANTON .WALL.SIGNAL.CABIN”. Complete with BR burner – restored. Wall is on the Hexham to Reedsmouth line.

 

288*       Caledonian Railway Cast Iron Milepost “CARLISLE 117”. Face only restored – 12” x 11”.

 

289         LNER full title Cast Iron sign “Beware of trains look both up & down line” casting 021, in ex trackside condition – 22” x 12”.

 

290         Cast iron SHEDPLATE “84J”  Croes Newydd, repainted front only.

 

291*       GWR Fire Brigade metal helmet from Swindon Works. It is well padded inside and is complete with chinstrap. The front is marked with “GWR” in roundel and rather faded “FB”.

 

292         SER Policeman’s wooden truncheon with turned hardwood handle, in good used condition with crown and ornate letters “SER” in gold. 

 

293         BR(Sc) Fully Flanged TOTEM “HILLFOOT” , from the Dunbartonshire station on the ex NBR branch to MIlngavie. It is in good condition with slight rusting on the white edges otherwise no damage and good colour and shine.

 

294         GER 8” dial spring driven wall clock from NORTH ELMHAM station. The original face is lettered “GER” with an ivorine plate underneath “3554” and branded GER twice on the back. There is a GER paper label on the back of the case “ Clock instructions from Mr Beavan, Watch & Clock Dept, Liverpool Street” and overwritten “North Elmham 15/6/15 and 15/2/16”. The face is a little faded and the glass is cracked but it is in full working order.

 

295         SER black on white enamel station sign “BOOKING OFFICE”, in excellent condition - 15” x 8”.

 

296         GWR Brass CABSIDE “4279” from a 4200 Class 2-8-0 tank engine built Swindon 1920. It went new to Newport then Glyn Neath and finished at Llanelly and Aberdare, finally being scrapped in 1964 at Cohens at Morriston. Face restored back ex loco.

 

297*       LMS ornate wooden leaflet rack with 6 compartments and with gilt letters “London Midland & Scottish Railway” and “Please take one”. The rack, which came from Newark Castle ticket office, is in good condition and is 19” long by 15” tall.

 

298         GCR Cast Iron “Great Central Ry” fully titled Trespass sign, Front only restored – 21” x 11”.

300*       Cast Iron SMOKEBOX “53805” from S&DJR 2-8-0 No 85 Built at Derby in 1914, becoming LMS Class 7F No 9675 in 1930 and 13805 in 1932, The loco, which was shedded at Bath Green Park, was taken out of service in 1961 and scrapped at Crewe Works. The back has been painted, the front may have been. The plate comes with its original sales receipt dated 11/2/64 for 14/- to R.Wilson.
