East of Glasgow on the line from Glasgow Queen Street Low level, in
totally ex seat condition - 26” x 4”
2* BR(W) flanged enamel Station direction sign “TRAINS TO
CORWEN BALA DOLGELLY & BARMOUTH” on 4 lines in excellent condition
and a top class BR sign – 36” x 20”
3 BR(E) 3-aspect HANDLAMP with curved brass plate
”WHITWELL”, referring to Whitwell & Reepham, an ex M&GN station
closed in 1959 on the Melton Constable to Norwich line. Complete
with BR(E) vessel and burner – unrestored.
4 GN&GE Joint 3 position Block
Signal instrument with large hand cut brass plate “TO FRENCH DROVE”
ex Postland Signal Box on the closed line from March to Spalding.
5 M&GN Joint paraffin funnel clearly stamped “M&GNJR”
and with a brass plate “GUESTWICK P.W.D. TROLLEY”. Complete with
hanging hook and gauze.
6 LMS brass cash bag plate engraved “L.M.S. Motive
Power Dept.STOKE. 52.”
7* Cast Iron oval WAGONPLATE “L&SWRCo 15523 Eastleigh
Works” from an S&D Joint Railway wagon. Restored front only - 13” x
8”.
8* LNWR brass acetylene lamp clearly embossed in 3 places
“LNWR” and polished to make a very good decorative item.
9* BR(W) unflanged enamel sign re ensuring barrows and
their handles don’t foul lift shafts. Good condition – 18” x 7”.
10 Cast iron SHEDPLATE “71G”, Bath S&D and then Weymouth,
restored with BR(S) triangle clearly showing on the back.
11* GWR wall platform lamp from “GRETTON HALT” with
pineapple top and 2 lead corner pieces. Complete with ceramic
nameplate “Gretton Halt” and original vessel and burner. The Halt
was on the Stratford-upon-Avon to Cheltenham line and closed in
1960.

Lion over wheel gilt with enamel Cap Badge “STATION MASTER”. Good
condition.
13 GN&GE Joint Cast Iron trespass sign. Front only
restored – 28” x 16”.
14* Ross and Monmouth Railway ornate marble pen & ink
stand. This very rare item engraved ”R&MR” and complete with its 2
glass inkbottles, graced one of the director’s desks and dates from
about 1873. A heavy item 12” x 9” and topped by a marble egg/acorn
in a cup. The Ross and Monmouth Railway was formed in 1865 and was
absorbed into the GWR in 1922.
15 GER Glass inkwell with “G.E.R” etched on the side.
Slight chipping on the lip otherwise good – ideal paperweight, 3”
diameter and stands 2” tall.
16* S&D Black & White enamel sign “TELEGRAPH OFFICE” in its
original frame. This sign came from Binegar station and is in good
condition – 30” x 7”

BR(M) Fully Flanged TOTEM “CORBY” in undamaged condition with good
colour and shine although slightly mottled.
18* LMS enamel lamp tablet “FISHPONDS”, black writing on
yellow faded with loss of shine. An ex Midland Railway Bristol
station closed in 1966 – 16” x 5”.
19 Cast Iron West Riding & Grimsby Railway viaduct plate
“WR & GR 53”. The plate has scalloped corners and would make an
excellent house number, face restored – 15” x 10”.
20 Clifton Extension Railway 7’ 6” long waiting room Bench
with “CER” carved in ornate Gothic script on the back rail. The
bench is upholstered but the fabric is a little tired. A heavy item
that will have to be collected from Colchester.

31* BR(Sc) Flanged Street direction sign “RAILWAY STATION”
with arrow , in excellent condition and almost certainly a one off
in this size of 49” x 9”. This stunning sign came from Fairlie High
station an ex G&SWR station on the Lairgs branch.
32 GWR wooden Signal lamp indicator plated “83 AND LONG
DYKE UP INNER DISTANT”, complete and in good condition.

LNER pocket watch marked “SMITH” on the enameled face and engraved
“L.N.E.R. 10401” on the reverse. In good condition, and working
order.
34 LBSCR 3-aspect HANDLAMP with full title brass plate
“LBSCR” and stamped “LBSCR 89” and plated “P Way Dept Billingshurst”.
A replacement inner, lacking glasses, has been fitted and the lamp
lacks its vessel & burner – part restored.
35 GWR Wooden station sign with metal letters “LADIES
ROOM”. Cream on brown – 48” x 17”.
36 LNWR Wooden Signal box name board with white Metal
letters on black background “HADNALL”. A box North of Shrewsbury on
the line to Whitchurch & Crewe. Ex box condition – 44” x 10”.
37* NER enamel hanging Station enamel sign in wooden frame
“PLATFORMS” with pointing hand, in good ex station condition – 57” x

LNER Cast Iron Roof warning notice casting 0.25. Restored front and
back – attractive small sign - 16” x 10”.
39 Taff Vale Railway full title Cast Iron double sided
trespass notice. A post mounting bracket is incorporated into this
casting which has been restored front and back – 33” x 19”.
40* GNR large oval brass WORKSPLATE hand engraved “GREAT
NORTHERN RAILWAY Co No 1384 MAKERS 1913 DONCASTER”. The plate is
from GNR J6 0-6-0 No 549, then LNER 3549 and finally BR 64198. The
loco was shedded at New England & HitchIn in the 1950’s, withdrawn
in March 1959 and cut up at Doncaster Works. The plate is ex loco
and is clearly stamped on the back “3549” and “4198”.
41* BR(E) Horsebox pot lamp with a Brass plate “LOUTH 77”
and another “BR-E” and also stamped ”BR(E” on the brass burner. The
lamp stands 16” tall and has been restored.
42* S & D Joint brass Signal lever plate “PULL 7 FOR” ex
MIDFORD Signal Box.
43* Cast Iron GWR Brake shoe from a horse drawn cart. This
substantial shoe with attached chain would be used under the cart
wheels when stopped on a hilly section of road. The chain would be
attached to the cart to stop it escaping. Clearly marked GWR and
possibly unique? Heavy item!
44 GN & LNWR Joint large 3-aspect HANDLAMP with double
piecrust top. It is stamped “GNR 8951” and “GNR 9077” and has a
steel plate “GN&L&NW JOINT” – also a makers plate “Knight & Co.”.
Complete with original vessel and burner stamped “GNR 4030” –
restored.
45 BR(NE) Flanged enamel station sign “TICKETS”, in
excellent condition with good colour and shine – 36” x 12”.
46* MSLR 12” Roundhead fusee Wall Clock with original dial
painted “LNER 8549” with Ghost letters “L.Simmons M.S.L. Manchester”
and 24 hour numerals written partly in pencil and partly on small
pieces of paper. The clock dates back to the late 19th
Century and its original number was 225.
47* GNR early “skeleton” ticket dating machine complete
with type and in good working order.

51 BR QR Poster “WELLS, SOMERSET” Travel by Rail. A scene
from the town centre with some very 60’s cars in evidence. Rolled
only with a small loss at the bottom and a few repaired edge tears.
Would frame well.
52 Cast Iron SHEDPLATE “5E” Alsager then Nuneaton, front
only repainted.
53 Dual faced signal block repeater as used at crossing
keepers houses to warn of the state of the line when considering
opening the gates. Twin dials “UP LINE” and “DOWN LINE” –11” x 8”.
54 BR(W) Half Flanged TOTEM “CHIPPENHAM” , from the
Wiltshire station on the main line to Bristol. It has 3 small
repaired face chips – otherwise good but rather lacking in shine.
55* SER small double fluted top policeman’s candle lamp,
with wire handles and cowled bulls eye lens. The front door has a
small brass makers plate “Dowler & Sons Birmingham” and another “S.E.R”.
Complete with part used Woolworths candle – restored – cute!
56* NSR small Cast Iron stove flap with “NSR” and an ornate
swirl – 7” x 5”.
57 GWR Spagnoletti double faced Block Instrument with
locking mechanism and 2 brass flaps to lock keys, with cast plates
“Clearing point fouled” and “Train at signal”.
58 LNER Cast Iron full title Bridge restriction sign
casting 013, with the front only restored – 27” x 17”.
59 BR(S) Lion over wheel gilt cap badge “STATION MASTER”
in good condition.
60 S&D Joint all Copper station lamp with blue etched name
tablet “COLE FOR BRUTON”. Midland railway pattern with decorated
double chimney and finial. Complete with MR burner and glass funnel
– stands 37” tall.
61 GWR Tinplate Megaphone with carrying handle in used
condition and marked “GWR”. Overall length 17”.
62 GWR metal First Aid box marked on the front “GWR First
Aid Cabinet 1250”. No contents apart from a GWR leaflet telling you
how to use the missing items.
63 Large 3-aspect HANDLAMP, possibly Isle of Wight
Railway, as that is where it came from, but only marked “P W DEPT
7”. Complete with vessel and burner – restored.
64 Box of pen nibs marked on the box “Goode & Co Steel
Pens” and “as G.W.R. No 2”.
65* BR(E) unflanged enamel sign “ BRITISH RAILWAYS MILE
END GOODS AND COAL DEPOT” on 3 lines, referring to a Depot in the
East end of London near Bow. There has been quite a lot of
restoration to look good – 72” x 27”.
66 LER duplex pressure gauge marked 0-150 and clearly face
painted “L.E.R.”. Manufactured by Westinghouse this gauge came from
London Transport electric loco No. LT5 – 6” diameter.
67* 7 GWR brass signal lever plates. 2 are oval marked
“DOWN MAIN DETONATORS OFF/ON”, the other 5 are all 4” long with
descriptions such as “ DOWN MAIN SIDING” (7)
68 LNWR large all copper station lamp with glazed top in
translucent glass. Cast brass corners and complete with cast iron
frog – restored.
69 GWR Cast Iron pre grouping full title Bridge
Restriction sign, with the front only restored – 31” x 16”.
70* Enamel sign black letters on yellow “BUCKFASTLEIGH”. We
are not certain if this is railway but it was purchased with other
Railwayana – 37” x 5”.
71 Wooden Steamer Destination Board “ARDNADAN” from
Greenock Princes Pier with the lettering ‘diamond cut’ into the
wood. The sign has metal end brackets and probably dates from 1893-4
when the pier was rebuilt by the G&SWR as a major rail/steamer
interchange. Unrestored – 44” x 8”. See lots 72, 262,549 and 550

73 GWR silver plated 1 pint coffee pot with lid and
engraved on the side “GWR” in ornate script surrounded by
“Refreshment Rooms” in garter. Standing 8” to the top of its finial
and in good original condition.
74 LMS enamel black on yellow rectangular lamp tablet
“BELLSHILL”, an ex CR station on Glasgow’s South side. The sign has
been creased in the middle and there is a major repair through the S
– 29” x 5”.
75 MR enamel Look out armband without straps. A little
surface scratching.
76 GNR all wood grain shovel lightly marked on the handle
“GNR”. In original used condition – 40” long overall.
77 S&D Joint Telegraph Circuit A140 1930 from BATH to
BRIDGWATER in its original glazed frame. This came from the
Telegraph Office at Bridgwater – 4” x 5”.
78 Caledonian Railway large wall lamp with double pagoda
style top and stamped “CALEDONIAN” on the front. Only one glass
panel (cracked) and no internals.
79 S&D Joint full title framed timetable poster for the
period July 20th to September 12th 1931. The
timetable is stuck on plywood and in a glazed frame. Frame size 31”
x 34”.
80 GWR Cast Iron doorplate “PARCELS AND CLOAK ROOM”, good
condition with the front restored – 19” x 8”.

Good condition in an original Southern frame with safety glass.

Company 1740 SWINDON WORKS 1907 – 3500 Gallons”. This was carried by
the tender initially attached to “Saint Benedict” and then to
numerous other locos until it was cut up in 1959.

with 9 lines of text . Rather faded - 12” x 9”.
93 Cast Iron SHEDPLATE “52F” North Blyth in totally ex
loco condition – slight damage to the raised border.

large brass plate “GREAT NORTH OF SCOTLAND RAILWAY CO” and a small
plate “RSLG”. Complete with LNER vessel and burner – restored.
95* LMS aluminium Hawkseye target “MANGOTSFIELD” from the
ex Midland Railway Junction of the lines from Bath & Gloucester to
Bristol restored.
96 GNR spouted Paraffin can with carrying handle lightly
stamped ”GNR BOSTON PUMPING ENGINE” on the top. Lacks stopper –
stands 11” tall.
97 LNER Horsebox Pot lamp with large brass plate “No 2
LNER KILCONQUHAR”, a station on the East Fife coastal line closed in
1965, The burner is engraved “NBR” and the unrestored lamp stands18”
tall.
98 GWR station lamp glass “BLEDLOW” from the Oxfordshire
station closed in 1963 on the Oxford to Princes Risborough line.
Black letters on white - 12” x 3” with sloping ends to fit a
platform lamp.
99 LMS Cardboard box for 12 inverted gas mantels and
marked “LMS” in 4 places. Inside are 11 cardboard boxes all empty
and marked “LMS No 2”. One small tear on box and a little foxed but
an unusual item – 7” x 5”.
100* BR(E) large enamel gate notice ”Before opening gates use
telephone to ask signalman the whereabouts of trains. Always stop
look & listen before crossing” and continues with directions on how
to use the phone. 14 lines of text in total, good condition – 30” x
36”
101* Cast Iron SMOKEBOX numberplate “44559” ex S&DJR 4F No 59
which was shedded at Bath Green Park, withdrawn in November 1962 and
cut up at Derby works. The plate, which is in ex loco condition, was
purchased at a Stoke BR sale in June 1967.
102* S&D Joint square Loco Lamp with glass to 3 sides and with
a small oval brass plate “Bulpitt & Sons Birmingham C&M 1890”. The
rear is stamped “S&DJR” and in original paint “S&DJR BATH LOCO”.
Complete with vessel and burner – restored – very nice small lamp.
103* GNR 3 aspect double piecrust top HANDLAMP stamped
“GNR693” and with a large brass plate “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN
RAILWAY STATION MASTER LEGBOURNE ROAD”. The top is stamped “GNR B
4/22”. The lamp, which was obtained from the widow of the last
Station Master at Legbourne Road, comes complete with vessel and
burner – unrestored.
104* GN &GE Joint Umbrella top platform lamp with 2 black on
white ceramic plates “BRANSTON”, from Branston & Heighington,
closed in 1958, on the Lincoln to Sleaford line. Complete with
original vessel and burner.

GNR enamel Shelf plates one marked “TO HONNINGTON” and the other
with the correct spelling “HONINGTON”, from the Junction station
box, closed in 1962, of the lines from Lincoln & Boston to Grantham
and Nottingham. Both are 7” x 1” – the latter has some damage at
either end.
106* BR(W) Fully Flanged TOTEM “BLACKWELL”, from the
Worcestershire station on the ex MR main line at the top of the
Lickey Incline. It is in virtually mint condition with only slight
damage to the right hand top bolthole – a rare totem only once in
auction.
107* M & GN Joint Cast iron Fire Buckets Notice. Rare and
attractive small sign in totally ex station condition – 11” x 9”
plus lugs.
108* LMS brass Forward/Reverse plate from the cab of LMS Class
8F 2-8-0 loco 8617 that became BR 48617. Cast brass in ex loco
condition with rear stamped LMS NF4B – 16” x 3”.
109 BR(W) Small Wood and metal office stamp which leaves the
impression of a 2” long totem with inside it “WESTERN REGION” .
110 GWR wooden Signal Lamp In/Out indicator in good
condition with brass plate “4.43”.
111 S&D Joint 1966 DR poster re Withdrawal of passenger
Services. It states that all passenger services between Bristol
Temple Meads and Bournemouth West and Highbridge and Evercreech
Junction are to be ended. All stations affected are listed and
across the bottom is pasted “POSTPONED”. Framed and glazed 28” x
43”.
112 LNER QR Posterboard Heading, “L.N.E.R.” with some
surface scratching but good colour and shine – 54” x 6”.
113 GWR Horsebox Pot Lamp with large brass plate “RETURN TO
LAMBOURN GWR 11”. The lamp which stands 16” tall has a large hinge
stamped GWR, the removable inside liner “N&BR” and the inner fuel
tank “GWR SWINDON”. A very nice unrestored lamp from a rare
location, which closed in 1960 and was the terminus of the branch
from Newbury.
114* S&D Joint wooden Ships Captains Chair with “MR” carved in
gothic script on the back rail and the bottom is branded “S&DR”. An
early chair with a split in the seat that was repaired in BR days.
The next 9 lots comprise of the Official bound
minutes of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway from 1876 until
1914 with only volume 8 missing. These bound volumes were kept at
the Estate Agents Office Derby and start just before Royal Assent
was given to “The Somerset & Dorset Railway Leasing Act” in July
1876. At the inception of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Company’s
control of the lines the Somerset and Dorset’s collection of rolling
stock was valued at £111,789 9s 8d (roughly). These minutes are of
the regular meetings of a committee of officers from the LSWR,
Midland and S&D Joint and give a fascinating insight into the
running of the Joint line from decisions over sidings, engine sheds
and fortune telling machines to reports of a child being birched and
sent to an “Industrial School” for throwing stones at a train.

and in very good order.

station on the Bath to Westbury line. It is in very good condition
with good colour and shine and only edge chip repairs and damage to
2 of the top fixing holes.
129 LSWR Cast Iron Doorplate “PRIVATE”, in totally ex door
condition – 14” x 4”.
130 GWR Pocket watch marked on the enameled face “ GWR
LANCASHIRE WATCH CO LTD PRESTON” and engraved on rear ”GWR 3116”.
There is a small stain on the face enamel otherwise in good
condition and in working order.
131 GWR wooden Jigsaw puzzle “NIGHT MAIL”. The puzzle, which
is complete and original has been framed and glazed but is not stuck
down. Both puzzle and box are in very good condition.
132 BR(S) flanged enamel Running-in-Board “WEYMOUTH”. Unrestored
with chipping and loss of shine - a large sign at 114” x 24”.
133 Lancashire Derbyshire and East Coast Railway poster
offering £20 reward for information on people maliciously causing
damage to their engines. H Willmott General Manager Chesterfield
July 18th 1903. In a modern glazed frame – 19” x 24”.
134 GER brown earthenware spouted Inkwell – the spout is
damaged at the end but clearly marked on top “GER” and an unusual
item.
135 Taff Vale Railway small piecrust top 3-aspect HANDLAMP
stamped “46” over “TVR” and plated “1253”. The interior of the inner
is stamped TVR as is the vessel – restored.
136 LMS small flare lamp with “LMS” in ornate writing
embossed on the side.
137* GWR wooden Invalid Chair with 4 carrying handles (2
extending) and standing on 4 legs. The chair, which has a wicker
back, is branded “GWR” on both sides, and underneath twice. It has
suffered in the past with woodworm but is an early survivor and
probably a museum piece.

face “GWR Kay & Co PARIS”. The case, the rear cover and the movement
are stamped “3579”. In generally good condition with a little
crazing to the enamel of the dial.

MacBraynes ferries unflanged enamel sign “BOOKING HALL”. The sign
is red on a green background and was made by the Falkirk Iron Co and
would possibly have been in a wooden frame – unrestored 72” x 15”.
150* Whistle and Forward / Reverse plate from ex S&DJR “7F”
Class Fowler 2-8-0 built by Stephenson’s in July 1925, works number
3894. Built as S&DJR No.88, renumbered by the LMS in 1930 to 9678,
and again in 1932 to 13808. Re-numbered 53808 by BR in 1948. Re-boilered
in December 1953 and withdrawn in March 1964. Both items were
purchased from Vic Hunt an S&D driver who passed out as a fireman on
this loco . They are mounted on a wooden board with 2 black & white
photos of the loco.
