J1

King George V 300 pieces
A rare puzzle to find complete as the pieces were cut very small and are extremely easily lost. This one is exceptional being in virtually mint condition and comes with its red box that is also in very good condition. The puzzle was made from 1928 - 1932 but because it was difficult to cut, and to make up, it was not very popular and it was produced in much smaller numbers than  the 150 piece version.

J2 King George V 300 pieces
A rare puzzle to find complete as the pieces were cut very small and are extremely easily lost. This one is complete and in average/good condition and comes with its red box that is pretty good with just a tear at one corner. The puzzle was made from 1928 - 1932 but because it was difficult to cut, and to make up, it was not very popular and it was produced in much smaller numbers than  the 150 piece version. Not quite as good as the previous one but still a very acceptable addition to any collection.

J3 Lost in Transit
The most difficult of the railway puzzles to obtain and the only one with cardboard non interlocking pieces. It was only produced one Christmas and given to workers to encourage them to take more care with parcels. The box does not identify it as a GWR puzzle & many must have been thrown away. This one is complete and in excellent condition and comes complete with its original excellent condition box. A must have if you want to complete your collection!
£700
J4 The St Julien Sideview (Framed)
This is a quite rare puzzle only being produced from 1926 - 1928. It has 150 pieces and is complete & in good condition. The puzzle has been framed & glazed but not stuck down within the frame. This displays very well as a picture - there is no box with this puzzle.
£45
J5 The Freight Train
A difficult puzzle to obtain but only made in 150 piece version and due to its size many of the pieces had to be large. The problem with the large pieces over time is that the plywood tends to warp and so the puzzle does not lay completely flat. This has happened to this puzzle. However it is complete and in good condition apart from a couple of small chips on a couple of pieces. The box has a loss on the side of one end of the lid and has written on it "Ernie Xmas 1928 & All done at Easter 1932 - I didn't think it was that difficult a puzzle!! It was made from 1928 - 1930.

J6 Londons Highways
A Chad Valley puzzle made for Carter Patterson who were the carriers for the GWR. This 200 piece puzzle has one edge piece missing and is in average condition. The box is very poor with the cover loose and the picture partly missing. Quite rare and only made from 1934 - 1936. Reduced for quick sale.
SOLD
J7 Springtime in Devon Fingle Bridge
A 150 piece puzzle showing the bridge and the river with a bluebell wood on the left. Complete and in good condition with a good condition box. A fairly common puzzle produced from 1930 - 1933.

J8 Windsor Castle Wavy Edged
The rarest of the three Windsor Castle puzzles in the series. The colours are more impressionist than real and this makes it an attractive picture. This copy is in good condition but has had two pieces replaced.
The replacements were made by the leading husband & wife team and are absolutely fantastic - you would have to turn the puzzle over to realise it has replacements! Two nibs are off and one piece has broken on a thin cut as was often the case. The box is slightly water stained at one side. The puzzle was made from 1926 - 1929 and is one of the rarest of all the puzzles.

J9 Windsor Castle Wavy Edged
The rarest of the three Windsor Castle puzzles in the series. The colours are more impressionist than real and this makes it an attractive picture. This copy is in mint condition. The box is also very good
. This is as good as an example as you are likely to find. The puzzle was made from 1926 - 1929 and is one of the rarest of all the puzzles.

J10 Britain's Mightiest
My favourite picture from the whole series showing King George V in a surreal form with superb colours and sense of movement. This 150 piece puzzle has 2 edge pieces missing but is still great fun to make. The box is rather tatty as for some reason all the boxes I have come across for this particular puzzle seem to be. The puzzle was very popular and although only being produced from 1928 - 1930 quite a large number were sold.

The Streamlined Way

J12 The Freight Train
A difficult puzzle to obtain but only made in 150 piece version and due to its size many of the pieces had to be large. The problem with the large pieces over time is that the plywood tends to warp and so the puzzle does not lay completely flat. This has happened very slightly to one or two pieces in this puzzle. The overall condition is good with slight edge scuffing & one piece has an edge chip & also one piece has broken on a narrow cut. The box is in poor shape having got damp at some point & the front having a name and scribbling on it. It was made from 1928 - 1930.

J13 Lost in Transit
The most difficult of the railway puzzles to obtain and the only one with cardboard non interlocking pieces. It was only produced one Christmas and given to workers to encourage them to take more care with parcels. The box does not identify it as a GWR puzzle & many must have been thrown away. This one has one piece missing and one piece slightly damaged. Otherwise good condition & comes complete with its original good condition box.

J14 Caerphilly Castle
The very first puzzle produced by Chad Valley for the GWR. This is one of the original puzzles that would have been on sale at the British Empire exhibition in Wembley in May 1924.The very earliest puzzles had the back of the plywood in blue, some of the pieces not interlocking & were cut around the outline of the loco. The later versions were a much simpler cut & fully interlocking. Although a large number were produced and sold between 1924 - 1928 this a very rare version. The early blue box, in good condition, is with the puzzle that is complete & in good condition with just one piece broken on a thin cut.

J15 Royal Route to the West
The image shows King George V pulling Cornish Riviera Express stock through the Devon countryside. This is a 200 piece puzzle - complete and in good condition apart from slight warping of the larger pieces which does not detract and is a common problem. The sleeve type box is in average condition with "GWR WOOD" inscribed on the end in ink. Quite common as it was a popular puzzle produced from 1933 - 1939

£20

J16 King George V
This 150 piece puzzle is in very good condition but has just one piece missing. The box is in pretty good condition. The puzzle was very popular and was produced in great numbers from 1927 - 1936 and so is one of the easiest to find. A good cheap starter puzzle
