London Chatham & Dover Railway 8” mahogany cased fusee DROP DIAL
CLOCK .The white enamel dial is hand painted “BR(S) John Walker
1, South Molton St. London 994-SE”. The pendulum and hinge are
also stamped “994” The records show that this clock was located
in the former LCDR Signal Cabin at Farningham Road station which
is situated between Rochester and Swanley in Kent. As the signal
cabin opened in 1861 and the clock dates from about 1870 it
seems likely that it went there shortly after the Station opened
and remained there for all its railway life. Excellent condition
in full working order and certainly a rare and desirable small

was prepared at the end of the tour. The front cover of this

NER fusee CLOCK with 12” dial marked LNER 5362. The movement,
which has 'A' shaped plates, was made by WINTERHALDER & HOFMEIER
and is marked “W&H Sch”. There are 3 labels, 2 of which are
attached to the side door and 1 inside the mounting box. The
main one on the door is the normal NER label in red writing,
stating how to pack the clock and pendulum when sending to the
Gateshead stores for repair. On the bottom of this label in
black is “N/C Superannuation Dept”, also in blue is “2-OCT
1911”. The label inside the box says “N.E.R. Servants Pension
Office, Clavering House, Clavering Place, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE,
NE1 3NL”. The final label relates to a clock dealer from whom
this clock was purchased. The clock is in full working order but

BR Britannia SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE “70024”. This loco
was one of a batch of fifteen Britannias built for the Western
Region at Crewe. It was named “VULCAN” (This batch were all
named after famous GWR broad gauge engines, and 70024 was named
Vulcan after the first GWR locomotive to steam on its railway)
and entered traffic at Laira in March 1952. Later allocations
were at Cardiff Canton, Rugby, Willesden, Holyhead, both Crewe
sheds and both Carlisle Sheds. The loco was Withdrawn in
December 1967 and cut up at Wards Killamarsh in April 1968.
The plate is in totally ex loco condition. |

Alloy NAMEPLATE “S. S. GREAT BRITAIN”
Ex D1952 Brush works number 614 which entered traffic in Oct
1966. As Class 47 number 47508 it was named by HM Queen at
Bristol Temple Meads as part of GW150 celebrations, linking
Brunel’s famous steamship with the celebrations... The name was
removed in June 1992 and fitted on 47823 in Oct the same year.
47823 was renumbered again to 47787 and had a final fling of
glory being renamed WINDSOR CASTLE and allocated to Royal Train
duties. 47508 was withdrawn from traffic in November 1992. The
plate is in ex loco condition with traces of red paint showing
through, and measures 65” x 10”. TBC |
