BR(W)
alloy loco HEADBOARD “CAMBRIAN COAST EXPRESS”. This
service ran from Paddington to Aberystwyth and
Pwllheli and was introduced in 1927, running until
the start of the war. Reintroduced in 1953 and
running right through until the end of steam in
1967. This style of headboard was in use from 1953
until 1958 and has a substantial mounting bracket on
the back – this being due to the fact that the
headboard was mounted on top of the boiler on
smaller engines. This example has cracked across the
right hand side in service and has been neatly
repaired with a plate on the rear by BR. BTC
