BR NAMEPLATE “WESTERN MONITOR” with its matching
CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “D1063” from a BR Class 52 built
at Crewe, which entered traffic at Old Oak Common in
May 1963. These name and numberplates were
fabricated, with the alloy details being riveted on
steel back plates. The loco was withdrawn in April
1976 and cut up at Swindon works in August 1977. The
nameplate only has some quite deep scoring down the
letters, probably caused by careless parking, and is
88” long. The plates have been restored with the
backs in primer but both still have blue paint
around the edges. (2) BTC
