BR gunmetal LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE “SOLWAY FIRTH” from
a
BR “Britannia Class” 4-6-2 Pacific, which entered
traffic in summer 1954 at Holyhead. A well travelled
loco being allocated at Crewe North, Camden, Newton
Heath, Neasden, Willesden, Aston, Crewe North and
both Carlisle Sheds. It remained unnamed during the
1950’s but in May 1960 became “SOLWAY FIRTH”, the
last of this class to be named. Finishing its days
at Kingmoor it was withdrawn in December 1967 and
was cut up by March 1968 at McWilliams, Shettleston.
Front only repainted – 45” x 6”. BTC
