GWR NAMEPLATE “BANBURY CASTLE” from a “4073” Castle
Class “7011” that was allocated new to Bristol Bath
Road in June 1948. It was also allocated to
Shrewsbury, Banbury and Cardiff Canton but will best
be remembered working the Worcester-Paddington
trains whilst it was allocated there. It finished
its working life at Reading and Oxley. Withdrawn in
February 1965 and cut up at Cashmores Great Bridge
in May. The plate, which is clearly stamped on the
back “R 7011”, has been very attractively restored
and would enhance any collection. The nameplate
comes with a 10’’ x 8’’ photo of the loco on shed.
