80  LNER/BR oval brass 9’’ x 5’’ WORKSPLATE “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 67778 R STEPHENSON & CO 1950”. Built as a Class L1 2-6-4T with works number 7512 and BR No 67778, it spent most of its working life in London at Neasden, Stratford and Kings Cross, moving in its final eighteen months to Peterborough New England. Withdrawn in May 1962 and scrapped at Darlington Works by July. Face only repainted. £610

82 GWR early double sided blue on white enamel CARRIAGE NOTICE. One side showing “SMOKING” with the other “SMOKING PROHIBITED”. This sign would have been used on suburban stock workings in and out of the Paddington area, the sign being slotted into a carriage bracket to indicate the restrictions in place for that particular journey. Good original condition - 23’’ x 2¼’’. £75

84 BR(E) Half Flanged TOTEM “GRAYS” from the Essex station near to Tilbury Docks. Good colour and shine with a few well-matched chip repairs in the outer panels and some minor scratching.  £520

86 BR(S) CARRIAGE PRINT “SUBURBAN SYSTEM MAP” with Southern in totem in top left corner and showing in colour all the suburban lines to the South of London. An attractive item and in excellent condition displayed in an original type glazed frame - 21’’ x 11’’. £70
87 Manchester Pullman COAT OF ARMS. These were displayed on carriages of the service that ran from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston and was in fact the final timetabled Pullman service to operate on Britain’s railways. Excellent condition - Mounted on board and presented in a gold frame for ease of display - 24’’ x 13’’. £50
88 Large Flanged enamel UNDERGROUND STATION ROUNDAL “TOWER HILL” from the District line station serving Frenchurch Street mainline station. Most signs of this size were unflanged and in a brass frame so this sign is quite unusual. It is made up of three parts which are bolted together - 56’’ x 42’’ overall. BTCD £200
89 SHEDPLATE “88B” CARDIFF (East Dock). Front possibly repainted some time ago. £110
90 BR(Sc) Half Flanged TOTEM “RIDDINGS JUNCTION” from the Cumberland station on the Waverley route that closed in 1964. A sought after totem in virtually mint condition with just one small well matched chip repair on the right hand flange that just goes into the blue. £1550
91 Brass Single line KEY TOKEN “ARDLUI / ARROCHAR” from a section of the Scottish Highlands line to Crianlarich. £150
92 SR fully titled enamel STATION SIGN re the condition upon which tickets are issued. A popular small sign, this one being from Broadstone station displayed by the ticket office, in excellent condition - 9’’ x 6’’. £160
93 GWR fully titled brass TENDERPLATE “GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY COMPANY 1623 SWINDON WORKS SEPT 1905 3000 GALLONS”. Locos being built at that time were Class 4000 Star and 4300 Moguls presumably to which this batch of tenders were attached. Over the years they were used on all locos larger than 0-6-0 with the exception of the Kings. An attractive plate that has been lightly face polished only.  £610
94 BR(M) Fully Flanged TOTEM “LEICESTER CENTRAL” from the County Town station which closed in 1969. Excellent colour and shine with flange chip repairs only. £2750
95 BR(NE) Unflanged enamel DOORPLATE “GENERAL OFFICE & TICKETS”. A little faded with quite large repairs to the corners around the screw holes - however not common and following the old NER title of “General Office” -18’’ x 6’’. £120
96 GWR Untitled Cast iron TRACKSIDE SIGN “NOTICE WAGONS MUST NOT BE LEFT STANDING BETWEEN THESE POINTS”. Signs using this pattern, which is the same as the classic GWR turntable notice, are extremely rare and were generally restricted to loco shed use. This particular notice has not been seen at auction before and because of the descriptive instructions, could possibly be unique. Tastefully face restored, in white on red, with original condition back - 23½’’ x 30½’’. BTC £640
97 PULLMAN China “CREAM TOT” with “PULLMAN” on the side above some attractive floral decoration. Excellent condition and just 2 ¾’’ tall. £65
98 GWR fully titled Cast iron “PRIVATE ROAD” sign with full company name and six lines of text relating to the 1924 Private Road Act. Restored front and back - 25’’ x 16’’. £140
99 Oval engraved brass WORKSPLATE  “KITSON & CO LTD 1909 LEEDS”. From a Class PB15 2-6-0 standard gauge engine built in 1909 with works number 4618 that went to Australia to work on the Queensland Government Railways with running number 499. The back of the plate is stamped “499” and “QG 4618”. Superb deep engraving with front lightly polished - 10’’ x 6 ½’’ £720
100 Alloy NAMEPLATE “FURIOUS” ex D434/50034 built by English Electric with works number 3804/D1175 and entering traffic in August 1968 on the Crewe - Glasgow services. Named in April 1978, after the 1916 built Aircraft Carrier, it kept its name until being withdrawn in June 1990. After a short time in storage it was cut up at Old Oak Common MPD by Coopers Metals Cardiff in February 1991. Presented in ex loco condition - 33’’ x 10’’.  £3350

101 BR(M) Fully Flanged “TOTEM” “ST HELENS JUNCTION” from the Lancashire station to the East of Liverpool being one of three totem adorned stations in this town. Good colour and shine with rusting on the black flange that extends into the edges of the white border. £1650
102 SHEDPLATE  “71I” SOUTHAMPTON DOCKS. The front only has been repainted on this plate from a very sought after location. n/s
103 GWR Brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “4994” from a Hall Class 4-6-0 named “DOWNTON HALL” which went new to Penzance in February 1931, with its only other shed being Didcot from where it was withdrawn in March 1963. It was cut up at Cashmores Newport in January 1964. Face only repainted and lightly polished. £1900
104 SR/BR(S) double sided wooden FINGERBOARD “LONDON BRIDGE AND CANNON STREET”. Both ends are metal bound and one face is better than the other - 48’’ x 6’’. £10
105 SR enamel TARGET “ROWLANDS CASTLE” from the Hampshire station on the ex LSWR cross country line from Guildford to the South coast that closed in 1961. Excellent colour and shine with four well matched areas of repair (two of which are quite large) in the green. Presented on a replacement wooden backing board. n/s
106 CARRIAGE PRINT “GREAT YARMOUTH, NORFOLK” by E T Holding. An attractive view of the river and town, in good condition with just one mark on the left hand border and presented in an original type glazed frame - 21’’ x 11’’. £75

109 Three SR Brass cased SIGNAL REPEATERS one titled “S RLY ON/OFF”, the second  “S RLY TRACK CLEAR/OCCUPIED” and the third “S RLY SIGNAL ON/OFF”. All in excellent condition. (3) £240
110 Cambrian Railways engraved brass Signalbox INSTRUMENT PLATE “FROM NEWTOWN”. A fine example with original wax infill and, measuring 6’’ x 1’’, is larger than the later GWR pattern. £90

119 Oval Cast iron WORKSPLATE “BUILT DARLINGTON 1957”. Locos built that year were 84020-29 and D3332-6, D3439-77. The plate is face restored only - 10½’’ x 6’’. £130
120 SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE “68538” from a Great Eastern Holden design 0-6-0T which became LNER Class J69 numbered 7361.  It’s whole BR life and death was at Stratford being withdrawn in September 1961 and cut up at the nearby works the following month. The front has been restored, the back is ex loco. £720
121 BR(W) Unflanged enamel DOORPLATE “COMMERCIAL INSPECTORS”  in chocolate and cream with two lines of lettering. Good colour and shine with just a little service wear to add to the signs appeal. It is believed there were only six regional commercial departments on the Western system. First time in auction - 18’’ x 6’’.  £880
122 MR/LMS wooden SIGNAL BOX BOARD with metal letters “BEDFORD LNW JUNCTION” from the Junction box for the ex LNW Junction to the Midland main line by Bedford Goods Yard. Unusual having the Pre Grouping Company name on the board. Totally ex box condition - 101’’ x 10½’’. BTCD £350
123 BR(M) Fully Flanged TOTEM “HESWALL HILLS”  from the Cheshire station to the South of Liverpool. The totem has undergone extensive restoration in all areas but you have to look closely to spot this. First time in auction. n/s
124 MET & GC JOINT Titled Cast iron TRACKSIDE SIGN “ TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED Penalty Forty Shilling or Imprisonment for One Month”. Unrestored with scalloped corners - 24” x 13”. BTC £210
125 Cast alloy NAMEPLATES “FIRE FLY” ex Class 47 loco, built as D1656 then 47072/47609/47834. It should have been named at Swindon Works as part of the GWR 150 celebrations, but after this was cancelled the ceremony took place at Windsor & Eton Central Station in August 1985. The plates are unique being in two pieces exactly the same as the Broad Gauge loco of the same name it commemorated. The nameplates were removed in March 1995 when the loco was renumbered 47798 and named “Prince William”. The two plates were cast at Swindon and were displayed on the loco with a GWR crest between. Fronts only repainted and lightly polished - overall the plates measure 35’’ x 8’’. (2) n/s

141 GWR brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “7020” from a Castle Class 4-6-0 named “Gloucester Castle” which went new to Cardiff (Canton) in May 1949. Later it spent a long time at Old Oak Common with just the final few months at Southall. Withdrawn in September 1964, it had been cut up by the end of the year courtesy of Hayes at Bridgend. Excellent condition with the front possibly repainted, the back untouched. £5050
142 GWR Cast iron SIGNALBOX BOARD “TORQUAY SIGNAL BOX” from the South Devon seaside station at the heart of the English Riviera. A very attractive and manageable plate that has been tastefully face restored in white on black with the rear left in ex box condition. This was the only plate on the platform box and it has been in private ownership since being removed and sold by BR. The box still exists as an architects office and the bolt holes remain visible from the platform - 60’’ x 9’’. Superb - don’t miss. BTC £2750
143 LMS oval Cast iron WORKSPLATE “LMS BUILT 1947 HORWICH”. Locos built that year were Class “4” 43000-2, Class “5” 44783-99 and 44992-9. Ex loco condition - 10’’ x 6’’. £170

147 LMS Alloy HAWKESEYE STATION SIGN “GRINDLEY BROOK” from the ex LNW Cheshire Halt between Whitchurch and Chester that closed in September 1957. Rescued from the station on closure it has been stored in a garage ever since - 55’’ x 18’’ overall. £1050
148 BR QR POSTER “SUFFOLK SEE BRITAIN BY TRAIN” by L Squirrell featuring Monks Eleigh near Lavenham with a view of the village green and church and with British Railways in totem at either end. Good condition, mounted on linen - 48’’ x 40’’. £275
149 Terence Cuneo Limited Edition Print “KING GEORGE V” showing the down Royal Duchy leaving Dainton Tunnel. The print, signed by Cuneo and Peter Prior, is No.97 of 850 and is mint condition presented in an attractive glazed frame - 34’’ x 29’’ overall. £170
150 GWR NAMEPLATE “WILLESLEY HALL” from GWR 4-6-0 Modified Hall “6967” built at Swindon in1944. Sheds included Oxley, Bristol Bath Road, Reading, Weymouth, Swindon, Southall and Oxford. Withdrawn in December 1965 the loco was cut up by Cashmores early the next year. The name originated from a building near Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire which has since been demolished. The green splasher and lining appear to be original paintwork and corroded strapmarks and ‘6967’ are visible on the back. The plate is an extremely rare example of a Modified Hall with full beading with the widely spaced boltholes associated with the 49xx and some 59xx loco nameplates. An opportunity to acquire an interesting and distinctive nameplate. Comes with a b/w photo of the loco. BTC £7050
