GWR NAMEPLATE “ROYDON HALL” from a “4900” Hall Class
4-6-0 “5994” that was allocated to Shrewsbury in
December 1939. Still there at nationalisation but
then moved to Chester, Swindon, Worcester, Exeter
and Shrewsbury being withdrawn from there in March
1963, at which time the nameplates were removed. The
loco was cut up at Cashmores Newport, after periods
of storage at Croes Newydd and Newport Pill, in June
1965. The fully beaded plate is in attractive
unrestored condition and the rear is clearly stamped
“L5994”. There are a number of letters regarding the
original purchase and delivery of the plate, which
was sold in 1963 for £15. Roydon Hall was located at
East Peckham, Paddock Wood in Kent.
