SR/BR brass LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE “LYNMOUTH” from a
“West Country” class 4-6-2 Pacific “34099” which was
built at Eastleigh in 1949. It entered service in
December of that year at Ramsgate, but was soon
moved on to Bournemouth and later was based at
Brighton, Salisbury and Eastleigh. The loco was not
chosen for rebuilding and stayed in its original
“Spam Can” form until it was withdrawn in November
1964. After a short period of storage it was cut up
at Bird’s Morriston, Swansea in March 1965. The
plate comes with its “WEST COUNTRY CLASS” scroll
both of which have been attractively face restored,
with the backs untouched, and they are presented on
a hardwood backing board for display. (This was one
of the West Country locos that was not allocated a
badge). BTC
