BR NAMEPLATE “WESTERN GUARDSMAN” with its matching
CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “D1025” from a Swindon built
“Western” Class 52 that entered traffic at Cardiff
in November 1963. After working the main lines to
the West for twelve years it was withdrawn in
October 1975. After hanging around at Plymouth Laira
and then at Swindon it was eventually scrapped at
the works in January 1979. Both plates have been
face restored only with all beading intact although
there is a slight dent at the bottom of the
nameplate bead. A substantial plate measuring –104’’
x 8’’ with the cabside - 34’’ x 10’’. (2) BTC
