Final sheds were Redhill, Basingstoke, Eastleigh and Guildford, being withdrawn in October 1963 and cut up the following January at Eastleigh Works. The front has been repainted at some time, the back is ex loco with an embossed “A” and triangle. £800
227 BR(M) Fully Flanged TOTEM “CARK & CARTMELL” from the Lancashire station to the North of Morecambe Bay. Good colour with slight loss of shine and minor face scuffing. £1600
228 BRB soft covered booklet “THE TRUTH ABOUT THE RAILWAYS - THE HANCOCK REPORT” featuring Lord Beeching for the establishment and Tony Hancock for the people, focusing on the good and bad of the railways. 21 pages with eight full-page pictures of this Country’s greatest comedian in a railway setting. 229 BR(NE) Flanged enamel STATION DIRECTION SIGN “CENTRAL STATION” with British Railways in totem and right facing feathered arrow. This sign came from the Street leading to one of the two stations in Redcar directing to the “Central” rather than the “East” station. Superb condition with excellent colour and shine and just a couple of small well matched edge chip repairs - 28’’ x 13’’. £480

231 BR(S) Fully Flanged TOTEM “SOLE STREET” from the Kent station on the ex SECR line to Rochester. Good colour and shine with a couple of small face chip repairs. £260
232 GWR leather HORSE BRIDLE complete with its brass buckles and steel chains. This superb item has four separate brass “GWR” shield shaped plates and has “GWR” stamped into the leather in six places. Presented in extremely good original used condition and if you have an ex GWR horse it’s a must have item. £260
233 SR TARGET “WINCHFIELD” from the Hampshire station on the ex LSWR line to Salisbury and the West. Good colour and shine with some areas of well matched chip repairs particularly at the left hand end. £270
234 GWR brass LOCO NUMBER “2” with fixing bolts from the splasher of a Barnham Class 2-4-0 loco. Face only lightly polished with plenty of knocks evident – 4½’’ x 6’’. £50
235 Curved white on red enamel TELEGRAPH POLE SIGN “G.R. PERSONS THROWING STONES AT THE TELEGRAPHS WILL BE PROSECUTED”. Good condition with minor chipping in the corners (it must have worked) – 6’’ x 8’’. £110

238 Alloy diamond diesel DEPOT PLAQUE showing an EAGLE signifying allocation to CREWE depot for its electric and RES locos. Ex loco condition – 25’’ across. £220
239 Alloy rectangular WORKSPLATE “BRITISH RAILWAYS DONCASTER 1965” ex Class 86 Electric Loco E3121/86241/86508/86241. The loco was named “GLENFIDDICH” in March 1979 and was based at Crewe and later Willesden. The ex loco back is stamped “86241” and the front is neatly restored – 8½’’ x 6’’

240 Alloy diamond DEPOT PLAQUE showing the WHITE ROSE of Yorkshire the home of Tinsley locomotives. In delightful ex-loco condition and inscribed with old paint on the back “37045”, a Tinsley engine until May 1993. £280
241 BR(E) Flanged enamel STATION SIGN “LONDON”. Judging by its size it could have hung above a timetable posterboard possibly at a major Junction station. Unusual, in good condition with excellent colour and shine with just three small chip repairs – 54’’ x 6’’. BTC £80
242 BR(Sc) Half Flanged TOTEM “STOW” from the Waverley route station that closed in 1969. Good colour and shine with slight dark staining and minor flange edge rusting. Last in auction in 2001. £880
243 GWR brass CASH BAG PLATE “GWR COLBREN JUNC”, from a South Wales station near Swansea. Attached to a small piece of leather – 3’’ x 1½’’.  £50
244 SHEDPLATE “70E” READING.  Front stripped of paint – the rear ex loco with 34015 Exmouth painted on it. £100
245 SR TARGET “CHISWICK” from the South London suburban station close to the Thames near Richmond. Good colour and shine with well-matched chip repairs at either end. Presented on a replacement wooden backboard. £260
246 BR(S)  Fully Flanged TOTEM “EXMOUTH” from the South Devon terminus station on the line from Exeter. Good condition with excellent colour and shine and just a couple of minor well matched chip repairs on the white border just touching the green panel. £1200
247 Alloy diamond Diesel DEPOT PLAQUE showing the COOLING TOWERS signifying allocation to TOTON depot. The rear of this ex loco condition plate has been marked “58020”  – 15½’’ across n/s
248 GNR mahogany cased 12’’ dial fusee CLOCK manufactured in about 1880. The neatly painted twelve-hour dial is marked “LNER 4198”. The clock, which is in good working order, was originally located at Parkeston Quay (Near Harwich) telegraph office and later at Parkeston Quay GER hotel. A very attractive clock that would grace any collection.

249 BR(S) unflanged enamel TOTEM POSTERBOARD HEADER “BRITISH RAILWAYS”. Not many of these were used and this one is in good unrestored condition with just minor chipping around the screw holes – 17½’’x 4’’. £420
250 Brass NAMEPLATE “CORONATION” with it’s matching WORKSPLATE “PECKETT & Sons Ltd 1920 of 1937” from an 0-6-0ST Peckett Type B3 built for the Tunnel Portland Cement Co. Ltd and used at their West Thurrock Works in Essex. The loco was withdrawn and cut up in 1966. The rectangular brass nameplate has the face only polished and repainted - 32½’’ x 6½’’, the oval brass worksplate has the face only polished – 15’’x 8 ½’’. A nice matching set from this coronation year.

Good colour and shine but the left hand wing has been creased with a major repair through the “AN” and there are a number of other significant face chip repairs. The colour is quite well matched and the totem overall is quite presentable. £155

263 BR Cast iron SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE “45578” from an LMS “Jubilee Class” 4-6-0 named “United Provinces”. Built by the North British Locomotive Co in 1934 with works number 24136 it was latterly shedded at Carlisle Upperby, Longsight, Edge Hill, Crewe North and Newton Heath. Withdrawn in June 1964 it was cut up at Wards Killamarsh in November. Repainted on the front only there is a small well executed repair on the right edge. £2050

269 Brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “7927” from a (GWR) 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 “Willington Hall”. Allocated new to Reading in October 1950 and later moving to Old Oak Common, Cardiff Canton, Cardiff East Dock, Newport Ebbw Jct and finally Oxford. Withdrawn at the end of Western steam in December 1965 it was purchased by the Wales Railway Centre. Over the years virtually no progress on restoration was made and is now to become the main component in the 1014 County Project. So in years to come Willington Hall will be “County of Glamorgan”. The front only has been polished and repainted. £1750

271 LT Underground brass framed enamel STATION TARGET “KING’S CROSS ST. PANCRAS”. This is the three-piece version and has been mounted on a backing board for display. The overall size is 24’’ x 20’’ and is presented in excellent undamaged condition. £1050
272 Brass Single line KEY “GARVE/ACHNASHEEN” from a section of the ex Highland Railway line through the mountains to Kyle of Lochalsh. The end of the key has been squashed through being run over by a train! £60

276 Oval brass TENDER PLATE “WATER CAPACITY 3500 GALLONS”. Front only repainted – 10½’’ x 6’’. £40
277 SR double sided enamel STATION SIGN “GENTLEMEN”. It appears to have originally been framed and later had holes drilled to mount it flat on a wall. Good condition with great colour and shine with just minor scuffing and a couple of face chips on each side - 30’’ x 12’’. £60
278 Brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “3403” from a (GWR) 9400 Class 0-6-0PT. Built by the Yorkshire Engine Co with works number 2578 having been sub-contracted by the Hunslett Engine Co. who should have built it for British Railways. Allocated new to Cardiff East Dock in February 1956 it soon moved to Radyr where its short working life came to an end in September 1964. Cut up at Birds Risca in February 1965. Front only restored. £1150
279 GWR brass cased PRESSURE GAUGE with the face marked “G.W.R and calibrated 0-200. The case is stamped “GWR” and “8.4.03” on the rim and the whole is mounted on hardwood with a hook for display.  A superb early item in unrestored and undamaged condition – 7’’ diameter across the face. £90
280 Three Westinghouse miniature SIGNAL LEVER SEGMENTS with one being single lever and the other two double lever. These items were part of the West side frame at Brighton Box, which was closed and demolished in 1985. (3) £220
281 Two BLOCK BELLS one complete being the Brighton West side to Hove bell and the other, from the same box has a broken stem but includes two bells. Not great condition but a worthy restoration project as the vendor obtained them when the box closed in 1985. (2) £125

284 BR(S) Flanged enamel SIGNALBOX BOARD “BUDE”, an ex LSWR terminus station on the North Cornwall coast. The station closed in October 1966 and it is very difficult to obtain anything from this sought after location. Good condition with excellent colour and shine with just one small face chip - the sign is a very displayable 60’’ x 20’’. BTC £1550

286 Alloy rectangular WORKSPLATE “BRITISH RAILWAYS DONCASTER 1963” from a Class 85 Electric Loco No 85035/85109 that was allocated to Crewe electric. The loco was withdrawn in the early 1990’s. The plate is stamped “85035” on the ex loco back, the front has been neatly restored – 8½’’ x 6’’. n/s

The following three lots are large enamel RUNNING IN BOARDS for stations on the ex LNWR line from Coventry to Nuneaton. They have been outside for some time and would benefit from a good clean. The buyer(s) will need to make arrangements to collect them from the Rugby area.

293 Sunday Times Magazine Limited edition hard covered volume “THE BOOK OF THE GREAT WESTERN” published in 1970. The book traces the development of the GWR from its early days with many photos, maps and information about tickets signaling etc. A very interesting book in excellent condition and being No 2946 of 3000 – 15” x 10”. £50
294 Rectangular brass WORKSPLATE “Armstrong Whitworth No 1139 1930 Scotswood Works Newcastle-on-Tyne” ex-GWR 5700 class 0-6-0 PT “7783”. Allocated new to Bristol St. Philips Marsh in November 1930 it remained there until withdrawn in October 1962, being cut up at Swindon Works early in 1963. Ex loco condition – 8’’ x 5’’. £230
295 MOD chromed CABSIDE PLATE “YARD No 9034” from a four-wheel diesel mechanical loco built in 1959 with works number 3901. Purchased by the MOD it was initially allocated to Portsmouth Dockyard and later to Milford Haven and Treown. The loco was scrapped in the mid 1980’s. Presented in ex loco condition – 12’’ x 6½’’. £110
296 SHEDPLATE  “81A” OLD OAK COMMON. The front has been attractively restored. £150
297 General Railway Signal Company Ltd TENDER for Electric Interlocking at “BRISTOL STATION G W Rly”. This was presented in March 1933 and has pictures and fold out diagrams of the apparatus required and a large fold out track diagram for the area to be re signaled. Very detailed and of interest to signal enthusiasts and Bristol specialists. The document is in a bound leather folder with dimensions 10’’ x 12’’.  £75
298 SR TARGET “BLACKFRIARS” from a well-known South London location formally called St Pauls. Retains fairly good colour and shine with a number of small face chip repairs and the letters “B” and final “R” have been repainted white. Presented on a replacement wooden backing board for easy display.

299 Brass Single Line KEY TOKEN “SILVERDALE STN/MADELEY CHORD” from a section of the ex North Staffs line near Newcastle-Under-Lyme, from the Junction at Silverdale to where the line crossed the LNW at Madeley. £360
300 LMS Brass LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE “CAMPERDOWN” from LMS 6P “Jubilee” Class 4-6-0 “45680” built at Crewe in 1935. For many years a Longsight engine it had short spells at Edge Hill, Carlisle Upperby and Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in April 1963. It was cut up at Crewe Works in June 1963. The 35’’ long plate, which has been face restored only, has the Clapham Collection number “1933/28/63” on the back as the plate originally went there from the railway. An oval brass WORKSPLATE “LMS BUILT 1935 CREWE” accompanies the plate. This plate is unrestored apart from the fact that it appears to have been lightly skimmed – 10½’’ x 6’’. n/s
