at OLD BESCOT on the line between Birmingham and Wolverhampton
dated December 1880 with signatures in 1890. Old Bescot has been
lightly crossed out in the title and replaced with Wood Green -

20” rolled. |

the famous Class 77 electrics which worked the
Sheffield-Manchester line (Woodhead Tunnel) over the Pennines.
On one end of the loco was the Gorton worksplate with the
Metropolitan at the other. All seven of the class were withdrawn
in September 1968. In totally ex loco condition – 12” x 6”. |

“Weymouth”. Built at Brighton in 1949 and a long time Stewarts
Lane locomotive before going West to Salisbury in 1961.
Withdrawn from that shed in September 1964 it then returned to
the South East to be cut up at Woods in Queensborough Kent early
in 1965. The plate is in totally ex loco condition and has a
clear Eastleigh triangle on the back. |

Hill, Borough Gardens, Gateshead and Heaton. Withdrawn in
December 1962 it was cut up at Darlington Works in June
1963.Face only repainted. |

Alloy NAMEPLATE “MAIL”
from Class 86 loco E3162/86226 built by English Electric Co.
with works number 3454/E300 in 1966. Nameplates were fitted at
Willesden in July 1979 and were removed in January 1985. It was
named after a Liverpool & Manchester loco, the name a favourite
for the earlier horse drawn stagecoach services. The plate,
which is in good ex loco condition, is
mounted on board with its BR English Electric Co alloy
WORKSPLATE and an alloy DOUBLE ARROWS emblem.
The plate is 26” x 10” and the overall size of the blue painted
backing board is 50” x 20”. BTC |

from a British Railways Class ‘4’ 4-6-0 built at Swindon in 1951
and first allocated to Shrewsbury. Well travelled, its other
sheds were Bristol St Philips Marsh, Cardiff Canton, Oswestry,
Chester(GW), Tyseley, Worcester, Gloucester, Exmouth, Yeovil and
Worcester again. Finally withdrawn in November 1965 it was cut
up at Morrisons, Swansea in February 1966. Excellent ex loco
condition. |

NAMEPLATE “LORD HAWKE”.
from a Lord Nelson Class loco number “860” built with an
experimental boiler in 1929 at Eastleigh. These locomotives were
required for boat trains on both the Eastern and Western
sections of the Southern Railway. In BR days it was renumbered
30860 and was allocated to the Western section, spending most of
its life at Nine Elms with final visits to Bournemouth and
Eastleigh. Withdrawn in August 1962 it was cut up at its
birthplace the same month. The plate, which was skimmed by the
railway before its original sale, has been restored on the front
only. This is a rare opportunity to obtain a plate from a small
Class of just sixteen. (Lord Hawke became Admiral of the fleet
in 1766).The Smokebox numberplate for this loco is available as
lot 226. BTC |
