Bidding Instructions & Conditions of Sale

In order to place a bid you must be Registered with Great Central Railwayana Auctions.

1. Bidding by Phone
  The auction lots are arranged in groups of 25 with each group preceded by the phone numbers that must be used throughout the auction to place bids on lots in that section and the final time for bidding. When phoning bids you should give your name & bidding number. When placing a bid on any lot you may leave a higher “up to” bid that will be executed as cheaply as possible subject to other bidding and reserves.

2. Bidding by Internet
  Bids can be placed 24 hours a day by using the bidding form that is available with the lot description for each item in the catalogue on our web site. Please note that all bids will be acknowledged immediately to confirm receipt - please check that there are no errors. All bids will be entered at the lowest level that meets the reserve (if your bid is below the reserve it will be entered at the amount that you have bid) and, if other bids have been received that are above the reserve, is one bid above the next highest bid on that item. If your bid is higher than this it will be treated as an "up to" bid which we will execute for you when other bids come in. If your bid is exactly the same as another bid received on that item you will be informed in a separate email - the first of the two equal bids being the one that is accepted. Prices do not update automatically but each day during the Auction between 9.0am & 9.0pm the current price of each lot will be updated on our website as bids come in so that you can see how your bids are progressing. Prices shown for each Lot should be correct as to 10 minutes ago. The final results for all lots will be on the site at 11.30am on Monday 22nd May 2017.

3. Bidding times by Phone

Monday May 15th 2.0pm to 6.0 pm
Tuesday May 16th 2.0pm to 6.0 pm
Wednesday May 17th 2.0pm to 6.0 pm
Thursday May 18th 2.0pm to 6.0 pm
Friday May 19th 2.0pm to 6.0 pm
Saturday May 20th 10.0am to 7.0 pm (End of Bidding on all Lots)

4. Bidding times by Internet
  Bids can be placed 24 hours a day.

5. Final Bid
  This is a new feature that we have introduced to offer all the advantages of an Internet auction but to allow our customers to bid at the end of the auction, if they wish, in a live situation.  Once you have placed a bid of over £200 on a lot in the auction you may register for "Final Bid". This can be requested online or over the Phone only on Saturday May 20th 2017 (between 10.0am and 7.0pm). This will enable you to bid in the "Final Bid" periods that run from 10.00am - 3.00pm on the FINAL BID DAY  Sunday May 21st
2017.

Final Bid can only be booked for all Lots on Saturday 20th May.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU HAVE NOT REQUESTED FINAL BID YOU CANNOT BID AFTER 7.0pm ON SATURDAY MAY 20th 2017.

6. Bidding Units

£5 - £50 - £5
£50 - £500 - £10
£500 - £1000 - £20
£1000 - £5000 - £50
£5000 - £10,000 - £200

7. Estimated Prices
  AT THE END OF THE DESCRIPTION OF EACH LOT CATALOGUE ESTIMATES ARE GIVEN WHICH GIVE SOME INDICATION AS TO WHAT YOU MIGHT EXPECT TO PAY FOR THE ITEM. HOWEVER WITH DETERMINED BIDDING MANY LOTS MAY GREATLY EXCEED THE PRINTED ESTIMATES.

8. Results
  You can find out if your bids were successful (and if so arrange a suitable delivery option) by calling 01306 502044 after 10.0 am on Tuesday 23rd May. Click here for more details.

 You will be offered the choice of :-

  a) Sent by post at buyers risk and expense by Parcelforce 48hr Service, Signed For or Special Delivery
(Please note that some items due to their weight or size cannot be posted – these are marked BTC in the catalogue. If in doubt please enquire before bidding).
  b) Delivered to the GCR Auction at Stoneleigh on 3rd June 2017 free of charge
  c) Delivered to the Solent auction at Wickham on 17th June 2017 free of charge
  d) Collected in person from Dorking, Dorking Stations or location stated in catalogue
  e) Collected in person from Great Central Railwayana Auctions Headquarters in Woodford Halse.

Final results for all Lots will  be posted on the Website at 11.30am on Monday 22nd May 2017.

  9. Condition of Lots
As most of the lots will be unseen by bidders we try to describe the items in the catalogue as accurately as possible. It must be appreciated, however, that most items will have suffered wear & tear commensurate with their age. If you would like further information about any lot please phone or email as early as possible in the auction for more information. Every lot is illustrated on our website. However if you feel that an item on receipt falls short of the catalogue description we will give a full refund. Please note this only applies to items collected or posted by 4th June 2016 at the latest.  

10. Payment
  All successful bidders will be sent an Invoice on Thursday 25th May
2017. A Buyers Premium of 15% + VAT will be added to the hammer price. Payment can be made over the Phone by Credit Card (2% fee) or by Debit Card (no charge) or can be paid by cheque or Bank Transfer. Phone Payments can be made to 01327 262193 or 01327 263633. Please do not bid unless you want the item and are prepared to pay for it if you win.
